  • Looks like they've had enough…

    bbc report

  • last issue of pro cycling had them banging on about how they were going to be at the vanguard fo a new racing ethos - just a bit sad that a known and recognised team won't be seen as an agent for change but one that folded under the pressure of a doping culture.

and ullrich had the best mullet...

  • On the topic of teams and doping I quite like the idea behind [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Slipstream]Team Slipstream[/ame]. Here is a quote from the wikipedia article on them.

"When the team entered the Professional Continental ranks they began participating in the Agency for Cycling Ethics (ACE) program with the aim of helping to eliminate doping in professional cycling. Participants are extensively tested, developing a bio-stable marker profile. Future tests check that these markers have not moved - if they have the rider is either ill or has taken performance enhancing drugs. If any change has been noted, the rider cannot participate in racing until the markers have returned to normal levels. They are interviewed and also undergo further testing to diagnose illness or detect doping."

  • Team High Road.
LOL, maybe they can get sponsorship from Starbucks, Costas, River Island, Phones4U, Boots, WH Smith..

  • Team Arrospok?

  • I think that Slipstream's supposed ideals are somewhat undermined by the fact that they've hired a recent, proven doper, one that lied continuosly about it and attempted to manipulate the media in his favour.....essentially all pro teams claim to be anti-doping but have dopers or ex-dopers on their staff and that is where the problem lies....Slipstream appear to be no different.

  • Is it not possible to reform?

Maybe the ex-dopers are just that, have turned over a new leaf and want to push for all to so?

    I know I can I think I am ...

  • True, and I personally think David Millar should be given the opportunity to reform, however if you want a completely clean team then hiring him is a mistake.

The culture of doping in cycling is ingrained, as long as people involved in doping continue to find work in teams then it will be impossible to stamp out.
David Millar is a fine example of how dopers behave, they lie endlessly until they are finally caught red-handed then they cry a bit and try to get some sympaythy...if this approach works and riders and staff are re-employed, where's the discincentive?..

So you're on about a one of the criteria for this team should be no connection to doping past or present and there ore make it exclusive, making top clean riders want to ride for the team and something that work well in terms of consistency in marketing and then hopefully pays off for the sponsors and hence the other sponsors want some so clubs change their criteria .... bla bla you get where I am going.

The problem is for a sponsor judging how much scandal vs success can it take. If there is a little scandal but a lot of success, resulting in lotts of sale / good advertisement the pressure will not be put on team bosses who I expect know most of what goes on.

I think that is signs of / recognized stages of addiction. I don't know about the drugs to talk about physical addiction but I suppose it maybe show the strong hold over many people the dopping holds where they end up "needing" it to perform.

  • F**k!!! Those colours will be missed :( :( :(
