"We will all die one day and be buried in the ground, except for the few that have opted to be cremated and have their ashes used as talc for mounting tight 700c x 19mm tyres."
That is the best thing I've heard all day.. well, last 5 minutes anyway. I'm off to register http://www.ash4cash.com..

matt (baddesigner) if lulu was a dude he'd be ripped to shreds. getting off lightly it seems lulu.
Maybe she's getting off lightly because folk have searched Facebook with her real name and now know (or think they know) what she looks like. Just a theory... :-P

Like how did you guys/girls find out about it?
Why are you interested in "fixie's"
What trips do you do?
Where do you travel?
Do you meet other "fixie" peeps
Have u injured yourself?
And any other exciting pieces of info you have?
Oh and pics if possible?Thanks
Lulu
Like how did you guys/girls find out about it? - My friend Carlos rides fixed, I blame it on him. And I porbably have a soft mind that's easy to mould, he'd say.
Why are you interested in "fixie's" - It's a different way of riding, a more connected ride and they're beautiful machines.
What trips do you do? - I commute from East London (Bethnal Green to be exact) to Westminster every day, go about 50 yards to polo on a Sunday and about 200 yards to Trixie Chix on a Tuesday. If I have to go anywhere at the weekend (shopping, museum, pub that's far away), I ride.
Where do you travel? - Er, dunno, with my bike? See above. Other places I travel are to my parents in NOrthamptonshire, but I get the train and I don't take my bike. I tend not to leave the east end for a night out.
Do you meet other "fixie" peeps - Yes, polo on Sundays, listening to the boys outgeek each other, Trixie Chix on Tuesdays to generally hang out with the ladies, get drunk and practice polo and tricks. It's nice being with other people that are largely of the same lifestyle - like to ride, [usually] conscientious, of a counterculture.
Have u injured yourself? - Someone ran over my foot, I have scars from my pedals, other than that my shoulder has never touched the ground whilst riding.
And any other exciting pieces of info you have? I have the smallest bike ever, er, there should be more girls involved.
Oh and pics if possible? - Click my user name.
Lulu I hope you get interested in fixed gear one day and haven't let these eejits put you off.

Like how did you guys/girls find out about it? It's hard to say, really. I definitely read about it, but I'm not sure where. Probably on the website of a local(-ish) cycling club who use them for bike polo.
Why are you interested in "fixie's"? Well, initially I thought that it would be good to have less moving parts on the neglected commuter bike: far less chance of a major mechanical problem and no jockey wheels to clean (that was a big plus.) I also hoped that riding fixed would make my riding style a bit more smooth and stately, stopping me from racing in traffic and therefore prolonging my life. This has all worked in practice, apart from the idea that the fixed gear bike was going to be a neglected, unloved machine, built from second-hand parts. This notion went out the window when I realised how good they look. Road bikes are more elegant than mountain bikes. Fixed gear bikes are more elegant than anything else on the road.
What trips do you do? A ten-mile commute to work and other jaunts within the city. I never take the fixed gear bike into the green bits. Too many serious hills.
Do you meet other "fixie" peeps? No. Boo-hoo! I know that riding fixed is supposed to be in vogue right now, but Glasgow's not on the cutting edge of style. I rarely see anyone riding singlespeed, let alone fixed. The Spotted thread makes me all teary-eyed.
Have u injured yourself? Not on the fixed gear bike. I've had the usual cuts and bruises from my other bikes. On two occasions, I've come off because of a lack of concentration or, well...misadventure, I suppose. I've been hit by cars twice, too, but I'm yet to break any bones. Long may it continue. You'd better not be a jinx. :-)
And any other exciting pieces of info you have? It took me bloody ages to get a bike to ride as a fixed. For six months, nobody seemed to have a suitable frame, or I would be outbid on eBay by people paying silly money for junk. I wish it was less popular.
Oh and pics if possible? We can't all be photogenic. It'll be a cold day in hell before I post online pics of me in denim shorts.
I hope that helps, and I hope we've all learned an important lesson today about using our real name on the interweb. :-)

My geared bike got stolen, so friend lent me his bike which happened to be Fixed gear. Why are you interested in "fixie's"
Im not really interested in them. I like simple things and fixed was the most obvious thing for me to use to get from A to B.What trips do you do?
I pretty much use it to travel everywhere within reason. I also done some long distance rides: Norwich to Cardigan bay, Brighton to London, Dunwich Dynamo and the North Sea Route. I am planning on crossing America next year, though this depends on funds.Where do you travel?
See aboveDo you meet other "fixie" peeps

Traditionally roadies (criterium racers) train on single-speed or fixed-wheel bikes over winter. I was racing (badly) at the time and also trained on a single-speed. The rear wheel came flip/flop so I flipped it to try riding fixed-wheel.Why are you interested in "fixie's"
I like the liberation and freedom of cycling, a fixed-gear bike is just one of the many bicycles I have. What trips do you do?
Whatever, whenever. If it's below 5 miles I tend to BMX, if it's over 30 miles and won't involve alcohol I tend to ride a geared racer. The fixed-wheel bike takes care of the majority of my cycling as it covers all of the commuting, trips across London and the longer days out where alcohol comes into play.Where do you travel?
See above.Do you meet other "fixie" peeps
I guess. Not that I would like to be called that, and not that I imagine they would like to be called that. Enlightened Londoners is probably far more appropriate given the dismal public transport on the weekends.Have u injured yourself?
Please don't ask a serious question and expect a serious response when it is phrased in text speak. Please also be accurate, you mean on a bicycle in general? Ever in general? Or on a fixed-wheel bike specifically? Yes, of course and no.And any other exciting pieces of info you have?
House of Cards on the new Radiohead album has a BPM count of 111.74.

London live DJ Robert Elms, on air today, when asked what he wanted for christmas replied "a fixed gear bicycle would be VERY good"
The march of the fakengers has begun in earnest, even middle aged wealthy men are doing it.
the only reasons I ride a fixed are:
it's fucking cheap.
it's fucking easier to ride (in traffic, in the wet and up the small hills we have in London).
and I was doing it before it got fashionable, ain't I the daddy.

i'm going to agree with the first response to this post: fixie has to be one of the worst words, especially in quotes.
minimalism, aesthetically and functionally. and super control over your bike in any situation. What trips do you do?

I've twatted about on internet forums catering to niche interests that eventually go overground since the days of 28k modems and every single one of them eventually generates a student requesting help with homework.
Its virtually a rite of passage. The other one is a hobby suddenly becoming referred to as "culture" usually by people with an interest in exploiting it for a commercial gain from something not directly connected to the hobby.
A fixed gear themed art exhibition will be the sign the charlatans have moved in and decided you all need some culture to go with your pastime.
