Fixed frame with mudguard mounts?

Posted on
  • I had a search on here but couldn't find much so, could anybody recommend a frame with guard mounts for not a hell of a lot of cash. I had a pompino not so long ago, and liked it but On-one are out of stock and i'm not sure i want a brand new new one anyway (god forbid i find one second-hand.) Any suggestions?

Don't hate me for wanting practicality!

    I'll get me slippaz n'pipe.

  • Lots of old road bikes have mudguard eyeletts. Condor do a fixed frame with mudguard eyelets. As long as you have clearence you can always just use p clips to attach them.

  • fuck a mudgaurd, love a dirty arse

  • steamroller

  • Pearson's Touche

  • Yeah i guess the steamroller and p-clips. I'm after THE frame. Haven't found it yet but got a little bonus today at work so i haven't done much work for the rest of the afternoon. Just googling.

I've seen the condor tempo, nice but not my bag.

  • Bob jackson do a road fixed frame that has options for mudgard mounts. Off the peg I think so not custom prices.

  • I have a Condor Tempo, I put together a number of fixed myself over the years for Winter-training, but not having the tools anymore I decided to buy one ready built and I am very pleased with it, it does have mudguard eyes and no toe-overlap (size 45 feet and with my co-ordination - and zig-zagging going through traffic - no overlap is very helpful). It also has standard drop-outs which with fixed and mudguards is really helpful too. I looked around before buying and did not find anything as good for me (that was not aluminium which I did and do not want).

  • Hi, i have a nice XL Pomp for sale. if interested contact: A.J.Searle@bristol.ac.uk

  • You know those chain-tugs with bottle openers on, who makes them?

I bet they've never thought of making some with mudguard eyelets on. Just another pipe+slippers type thought.

Hey, come to think of it, I bet you could get some big washers from a hardware store, and drill an extra hole in near the edge - couple of M3 bolts with nyloc washers and you're laffin'. You could take em off in the summer.

  • Surly

  • Kona Paddy Wagon also has guard mounts (at least that's what I think they are on mine!) Yep I realise more a an OTP than a frame but still...
Or just use raceblades or a clip-on rear on anything.

  • TheBrick(Tommy) Bob jackson do a road fixed frame that has options for mudgard mounts. Off the peg I think so not custom prices.

I wish I'd got MG eyes on mine when I bought it. Lovely frames and cost about £300. If the geometry is the same on the ones with MG eyes (which I think it is) then you will prob just have clearance for 25s with the guards.

I'd seriously consider converting an old audax bike though - cheaper and trackends and mudguards are a bit of a pain. Although there are ways around the worst of it, e.g. using the quick release mounting jobbies on the back. Ptherwise look at the Surly cross check for a do anything frame

  • An IRO Jamie Roy does, cheap too...

  • Ok, so i saved the bonus and found a second hand Pompino in my size, Sold a few bits to pay for it. It'll be ok for commuting and long runs and it was cheap so at some point i may customise it a bit.

"I'd seriously consider converting an old audax bike though - cheaper and trackends and mudguards are a bit of a pain. Although there are ways around the worst of it, e.g. using the quick release mounting jobbies on the back." This is an option for the future, GF permitting.

I guess i don't NEED 3 bikes, but i use them all so why not have them, even if i have to store them where my clothes should be.

I'll do some research on the BJ and steamroller for the post crimbo bonus, should i be lucky enough to see one.

    Ta,

  • As of 2 weeks ago there was a black 22 inch BJ in Putney Cycles available for sale with rear mudguard eyelets.

  • what about converting an old utility bike. my first conversion was an old raleigh three speed that i got for £30. i took all the mug gaurds off so don't know if they'd have accomodated bigger wheels. frame was well heavy though... hmmm, sounds liked i even taked myself out of my recommendation - go with what the other's said...

  • I'm not really looking for my first fix.

I've had plenty of bikes built up in the last four or so years just can't settle on any one of them.
Just thought i might like to put together something nice, a long termer if you will.

    Cheers for the comments.

  • Steamroller don't have no mounts.

    This Skyline has plenty:

  • putting together my winter bike, man mudgaurds are a fiidly pain in the arse! But I'm getting there.

Just realised that punctures and swapping the wheel over for different gearing is going to be a major pain with the set up I'm using.

    Any tips?

  • If you have trackends and are using sks mudguards get pair of the QR black plastic bits used on the front for the rear. Quick to make room to move the wheel.

  • The exact set up I'm using, thanks.
