I have 4 bikes on 3/32 and 2 on 1/8. When clean, they ride the same.
I'll soon be running 1/8 chain over a 3/32 cog (if dogs comes up with the goods).
I've not broken any chains. People who break chains have typically fscked the installation.
Where did you get the "1/8th has better bushes" thing?

Run what works for you but there's no reason to use 1/8th unless your thighs are bigger than Chris Hoy's.
