Ten Ten Tei - almost directly opposite Taro on Brewer Street. A Japanese ex of mine introduced me to this place, and I am eternally grateful to her for that. Possibly my favourite restaurant in the world. Their nabeyaki udon and oyako don never fail to make me happy.
The Premises, Hackney Road (next to the Mecca Bingo!) - great all-day breakfasts, bangers and mash etc., then at about 6:30pm, they become a pretty decent Mediterranean barbeque joint (think high-quality kebabs, mezze and lamb chops). Plus, anywhere with Nina Simone on their wall of famous customers always gets a thumbs up.
Balans, Old Compton Street - brash, loud and very gay, but where else can you get roasted duck breast with gratin potatoes at 3am?
Sunday lunch at The Royal Oak, Columbia Road - pricey, but oh so good.
