  • Sorry folks but I'm gonna bail... got an old mate visiting at short notice

Have a great ride and I'll see you on the next one

  • Can anyone bring a chainbreaker just in-case.
    I stupidly gave mine away.

sorry do not have one. I have spare chain if that helps. but rather no want to carry it

  • Did a solo 71 mile round trip in 4 hours. HORRIBLE cross/head wind on the way out, and annoying crosswind on the way back :(

Didn't see anyone out there. I was riding back between Much Hadham and Roydon between about 11.45 and just after midday - where were you lot at that time?

Anyway, I enjoyed the gears, and am totally smitten with my new winter rubber, Michelin Pro2Race in 700x25 - at 80/85psi, it makes gives my alu frame carbon ride qualities. Nice.

Hope you all had a good one; not too many punctures, and no 50x14 brakeless wipe-outs :O

  • We left Hyde Pk Corner a little late (9.45?) and then didn't get to London Fields until 10.30. Suffered from headwind on the way, and a number of p*nctures (I got one on the way to the meeting point, and again about 7 miles out of Cambridge). Other than that a nice ride - especially the narrow country lanes. Weather looked threatening but never did anything, and the sun actually came out occasionally.

A great day, and sorry I had to peel off to the station without saying goodbye to everyone - hope you go back safely.

  • sort of headwind but mostly crosswind i think, bit annoying. about 4 punctures in total and lots other mechanical stop. lots of stops...i got cold!!! i think it was 1545 when we got to centre of cambridge...but it was a good ride, enjoyed it. excellent country lanes. might have to do that again (when i get my road bike!)

no crashes this time around. no big hills to worry about...

simon, i think we saw you on the train...fuzzbrain and i caught the same 1615 train to kingsx.

  • simon, i think we saw you on the train...fuzzbrain and i caught the same 1615 train to kingsx

Quite likely - I got abuse from some cunt in a suit because he decided he wanted to sit in the cycle parking area outside the disabled loos, and when I pointed out I got there first he started foaming at the mouth and shouted "just move the fucking bike" then stared at me for the full 48 minutes of the journey - hence the Paula Radcliff sprint down the platform at Kings Cross before he decided to touch me in a special place...

  • I think we were at Much Hadham Post Office at about 1230, when Matt finally caught up with us.

Good ride, but I could have done without the winds and the cold.

Spits of rain for about 1 minute after we left Liverpool Street, but then it was dry.

  • Headwind, arduous, cold but satisfying ride.
Hope everyone got home without getting rained on.

  • Enjoyable ride. Only stayed with the guys for about 2 miles at Much Hadham, as was late for lunch. Bumped into them again for the train home, which worked out well. Hard going due to headwind and a bit slippy in places, but lovely roads (more up and down than we were led to believe, though...). Would be very keen to do it again another time - fixed or otherwise.

  • it was good guys, thanks for the ride.
    A Sunday well spent !
My legs are minced meat and I have Carpacio Arse !
But great fun and great people !
I will see what I will find on my camera and post it in the next few days.

    In Summer..

  • The temperature definitely seemed to drop around 1pm (though Chingford gives me the chills at the best of times).

Had a moment's wheelspin also, climbing a fantastic little hill that I've not done before, despite riding round almost every other lane in the area over the past 10 years or so :S

Must have just missed you before I turned off your route at Roydon on the way back. Could've done with some human contact ;(

  • what time did u get to cambridge illy?

  • Hi guys, got home safe (only stayed till about 10 to 7 in the end, my poor friend in cambridge seems to be bogged down with work) and PUNCTURE FREE! Thanks to simon and rob for assistance/tyre levers and pump. sorry to hear about that altercation on the way home, I had a nice, if bizarre, chat with a couple & dog (that barked uncontrollably at black people, despite being black itself?!)

Not quite the flat 50 miler i'd expected, but that's my soft and unfit side talking. Cheers jonny and ma3k (hope that cough clears up)!

Of course: Thanks JayDub for the lead out.

ma3k, hope that cough clears up - you didn't sound well at all for the first 20 miles.

  • Yeah it was fucking horrible, riding my Tonka-bike didn't help much either.

    Cough, cough.

  • btw - Next time I ride to Cambridge I am going to wear a helmet:

  • fatboyralph what time did u get to cambridge illy?

About 3.20pm, so I didn't beat you by much. (In my defence, I did take a wrong turn and short detour...)

  • ... so I was only two hours late for lunch.

  • boys... I am encoding the film right now....be sure to check tomorrow for the media coverage

  • Gentlemen,
I finished editing the clips from yesterdays ride.
    You want video ? .... http://www.bregler.net/video/CambridgeRide.php

It was a hard piece of work for mi legs. But I am glad we have done it and met you lot.
Against all odds, the wind, the artillery man, the slippery roads and a lunch time of 4pm.
Stunning job everyone ! See you next time

    / Danzel
