  • Anyone heard of a Gitane Chrono ? Have searched far and wide on t-internet and nothing doing ? Old ? New ?
and Exage 300EX parts ? are they any good ?

  • Cheap French bikes if I rightly recollect - not that bad, not that brilliant....

  • i think my first ever bike was a gitane, but i can't really remember.
(it was when i was 3/4), been riding ever since.

The old ones are not bad quality at all.

  • smelly, French fags.....the word means "gypsy" which is a very romatic name for a "velo" wouldn't you say?

oh yeah, Bufferoo Bonk has got a Gitane track bike.

  • from what i heard, as with pugs they can be really rather nice bikes they have been raced in the TdF or they can be just absolute rubbish, it's really rather hard to tell, just see what tubing it is maybe?

  • Agreed, i have a 1984 Tour de France and i converted it to fixed for my first fixed. It was built with a better tubeset than another Gitane of the same year i had. Built both bikes up with the smae components, and i could easily tell which one rode better. Look at the lugs too, if it looks cheap, it is. And will ride like a pile of crap.

  • does kilgore_trout have a gitane??

  • this one's really quite nice.

Vitus Xo CR-MO Special double butted is held in quite high regard...

  • winston smelly, French fags.....the word means "gypsy" which is a very romatic name for a "velo" wouldn't you say?

Yea, I've got that same Gitane with a cracked seatcluster lug. Lasted many years messengering... It's now a polo bike.

Gitane made some really nice and semi-desireable bikes way back when, then they all became sort of mid-range and below kinda like peugot. Given that there's not that much info available, I'd say it's not one of the nicer frames.
