  • Hi all. I've been posting for all of a week, but have just taken delivery of the new bike so at last i am fixed. I'm after some advice on bars.
    This is it:

Really not loving the bars that the previous owner had. Horns just don't seem right, and some of my friends reckon risers. For some perverse reason I have an urge for the 'tache, but that would be ridiculous, right? At the end of the day it will come down to what feels right, but I just wondered, what are your thoughts?

  • Risers - depending on the ride height you need, of course.

  • i was watching that on ebay, nice kit on it. what's the paint job like? the seller said it was a bit dodgy...

  • For some perverse reason I have an urge for the 'tache

  • Not a great deal of shine to it, and a bit grainy, but it's in good condition. The thing that swayed me was the wheels, which were worth what I paid for the whole lot. Just need to change the gearing now, as he was on 42x14. Anybody got a miche 16t?

  • Now THAT's what I'm talking 'bout

  • yeah it went for just over 200 shillings didn't it? i thought about bidding on it but there were about 50 watchers and i wasn't up for a bidding war with anyone...

  • Slack yeah it went for just over 200 shillings didn't it? i thought about bidding on it but there were about 50 watchers and i wasn't up for a bidding war with anyone...

How d'you know how may watchers there were?

  • if there's something i want on ebay i'll email the seller and ask how many watchers are then you can guess roughly how much it'll go and if it's worth trying to bid for it. yesterday there was a pair of colnago forks that were at £10 ish with an hour to go but there were 27 watchers and ended up going for 60ish

  • ?

  • tomasito .. Just need to change the gearing now, as he was on 42x14. Anybody got a miche 16t?

why do you want to lower the gearing even more ?

  • at the moment, i think, it is something like 80 gear inches, right?
please correct me if i am wrong, having never ridden fixed before, but I gather something in the region of 76 would be better for a newbie...

  • 68-72 gear inches is the so called optimum range... spin to win... i am using 64 for winter

a 16t on the back will be good. i dont have one unfortunately.

and get the tache, i reckon it'll suit the bike. and at least you wont have to get into that drops/risers debate...

  • definitely track drops.

  • I have a an english threaded 1/8" 16T cog. Miche is italian but english threaded cogs go on ok provided you don't swap between english and italian regularly. Whisper if you want it. It's black by the way.

  • bars like this

  • Get some nice narrow drops from 80s touring peugeots.... they always look nice cause they have got a bit of straight on them but aren't too wide... I've been riding risers on my Mercian with Oury grips..... and, if Hippy's listening.... They have begun to piss me off so today I'm switching to drops! I got fed up of looking at my bike with big, fat grips on

  • tomasito, i have a spare 16t, would like to swap for a 15t tho, 14t too small.

    nice bike btw

  • ummm...they do look slightly out of keeping with the minimal feel of a track bike.

  • i know.... it's just some illogical urge. It would look stupid as, but I would be spearheading a new trend, trust me.

    these are nice, but wide:

    width of my shoulders?

  • Are they DT Swiss rims?

  • Nicholas Are they DT Swiss rims?

    yep, DT Swiss RR 1.2

  • definitely track risers.

  • which shops have the best stock of bars. BLB? Condor?
