  • looks like it. I just checked the track one and that is 109.5 mm so you should be sweet with 109.5 mm one from Evans. Order it to be delivered to store if you can pick it up that way you will save on postage.

couldnt get it in with the bb wrench.

  • I am in Woolwich dockyard. I am going for a drink to night but can bring the bb tool into work tomorrow (Euston) and you can collect and then return.

  • cheers tommy, i'll whisper you my number - i can collect it tomorrow and return it on friday. its the round cup one right?

  • NONONO the ultegra is too big throwing my chainline to hell by about 5mm - i have used spacers to solve this issue but have had to shorten my chain and for the life of me i cant put the fucking chain together with the funny little tool

advice needed as my oyster is run out and i need to ride to fucking work

  • come on

If you are having trouble with using the chaintool then check out the park tools website.

  • what chain is it - 1/8 or 3/32?
does it use a quick-join link or did you split the chain in the conventional manner?

Explain what you are doing with the chain tool and what bit you are having trouble with.

  • i am having trouble pushing the pin back through the links joining the two links together

  • Oh dear. You shouldn't have pushed the pin right through the chain plate. When this happens it could take you either minutes or days. Always leave the pin just in the link plate.

A shop 'might' do it for you for a couple of £s.

  • Have you pushed the pin all of the way out?

Hopefully not. Hopefully you have it in on one of the out side plate.

If you have completely removed the pin I would use one of the links you have removed to replace the link you are working with, as long as you have an entire link without the pin completely removed.

Lets assume that bit is sorted.

You may be having trouble because you have a 1/8th chain and 3/32th chain tool. In this situation you will not beable to get the pin in because you will have to unscrew your chain tool too far and it will be in two bits.

My solution to this is a pair of plyers put the chain together as you want it. and squeese the pin in the first bit, it will go all of a sudden if lined up properly then use the chain tool to tweek the pin possion and free off any stiff links.

  • this is turning into a fucking tragedy. thanks tommy as ever, i will give that a shot

  • Did you push the pin out all the way? If so you should remove (shorten chain by) a pair of links and extend using the excesss that you have kept aside.
Otherwise it is just a matter of lining the links up properly witht the pin sticking out of the outer plate aligned with the pin of the chain tool and twisto-presto!
Seriously - google it. park tools website. bikeshop it.

No usually, I am just stuck with a computer that is not doing as it should and hence the week wasting more time than ever on the forum.

For any of you technical kids out there, don't use Fortran 77, it comes from the era of funk and there in lyes it's problem, it's just too dam funky and falkey and ghay.
