andrewleitch86
mattsparkes There's not really any point in unlocking an iPhone and using another SIM card in it. You get an unlimited data plan on the iPhone plan, which you'll want if you use any of the web features. On a normal contract the bill would get big real quick.
But you get bugger all minutes with the £35 a month package. With T-Mobile I could get for £32.50 what you get on the £45 O2 iPhone tarrif.
edit: that includes unlimited internet.
Unlimited VERY fast HSPDA internet. You gotta love T-Mobile if you like data.

The reason i'm gonna get one is so I can sync it to all my software - email, calendar etc
I can do all of that on my smartphone, plus edit and create word and excel, view, edit and create photos and movies, full wifi, web-browsing, unlimited pop3 accounts, gmail, hotmail, bluetooth, hundreds of pocketpc games and 3rd party software available, wifi skype (with my dad in America and so many wifi hotspots it's like having a free mobile phone service!), google maps and a qwerty keyboard!!...oh yeah mp3 player too...it cost 49 quid on a 35 quid a month, 12 month orange contract which include 10mb of data 500mins and unlimited text messages...so I still don't get the Apple thing.....Caspar's can do all that and it's got GPS built in too....top that Apple.

dogsballs iphone, thats soo 2007. i prefer my vintage circa 2001 Nokia 3310 "indestructible and able to leap off tall desks"
anyone have a spare battery for one of these, mine is fooked!
Here is my current 'iPhone' - well actually it's an 'eyePhone'.
You can turn any 5 year old piece of shit held together with packing tape phone into an 'eye'Phone' with a packet of those stick on plastic eyes that move if you shake them around.
If you look carefully you can also see my pink rim ! Oooh ! I say !!

I can also do all of this (except the phone bit !!) - but all the hotmail, gmail etc etc over wi-fi for free on my ipod touch - no charge, no bills, no nothing ! :)

so tynan if i were to get an iPhone would you pimp it for me? and get a 30G drive in it? not that i think that is possible but , who knows. I was thinking tho, it took apple about 5 generations of ipods to get one that worked fine, i always avoid getting 1st generation technology.
Anyone knows anything about that Google phone? -

I often hear people complain about the lack of a 30g hard drive in the new iPhone/iPods - but to be honest (and this is someone who is coming from a 5G 30g iPod) I think being able to carry around 1750 songs / 10 hours of video + the internet / youtube in your pocket is plenty enough for me.
The iPods provenance is as a music player for people to listen to music on, too many folk nowadays want to be music librarians and are not happy if they are not carrying around their whole library.
This iPod is not first generation but 6th generation (same goes for the non-phone parts of the iPhone).
I also had the 1st generation iPod, it was comparatively small (5 gig) - but I was stunned by it and what it allowed me to do - it was light years ahead of my walkman/portable CD player.Google phone sounds great so far, but this really will be a 1st generation product.

no no the iphone isnt mine, housemate works at apple so he gets one free.
its opening to 3rd party in jan
but in my opinion its all about the hack -

Way way way cheaper than the iphone (£100 on £25ish contracts), but it actually has proper internet (HSDPA, think 3G on steroids), wifi, GPS, a proper camera, etc etc.... Oh and its got a kb so you won't keep making typos all the time ;)

Here is my bet for those who live/work in London.
Within a year or two Wi-fi coverage will be so complete in London that you will wonder why you ever bought a phone on a contract.
-

Ja, mine is the earlier version of that made, for orange....it's a real "business" phone...you know the serious shit, not some brightly coloured, over - priced toy for the brand-obsessed young trendies!!!!!!!

maybe....but how often do corporations give something for free that they could actually sell?, you'd need a hell of a lot of bars and cafes (who have free wifi to draw people in to sell them stuff) to have mobile phone like coverage...or get ken to pay for the infrastructure....this, of course, might actually happen.

the only thing i ask about when getting a new phone is battery life and coverage. i have never listened to music on my phone or used the internet. it's annoying that this shit comes as standard these days. i would rather they used the memory to put in a decent dictionary. i had to type to enter the word 'spinach' into my phone yesterday, hardly one for dictionary corner
The reason i'm gonna get one is so I can sync it to all my software - email, calendar etc at the studio.
Difference is, the company is gonna pay - A lot has been made of been tied to an 18 month contract
but I upgraded my Orange phone last year as the phone broke, and I was NOT told the new contract
was 18 month? We knew at that point the iPhone would be out in 12 months!!!
