    Nah, it's easy and safe - a restore from itunes resets everything back to factory - it used to be chancy (you could even 'brick' the iphone) but things have moved on, I cracked my 'touch' on the first day I got it, I can now run all sorts of useful stuff not included on the shop bought model.

    Also, I don't think hacking the iPhone is illegal in any way that I can think of ? Perhaps distributing 3rd party software that modifies Apple's own software may be illegal (for the distributor to distribute but certainly not for the user to use) - but how you employ property you have bought is largely outside the remit of the criminal justice system.
