It's interesting to see your point of view - I moved to London at the end of September for uni, and started cycling after a couple of weeks. Prior to that I used to cycle everyday on the roads to my job/college, and I'd say the drivers back home were worse than London simply because they were going so much faster and weren't used to cyclists.
Like others here, I like the traffic. I get a kick out of finding the quickest route through without killing myself, and you learn to somehow guess what drivers are going to do next and learn to recognise situations where you could potentially get hurt. As well, as it's already been said, riding on the left hand side by kerb is, I'd say in heavy-ish traffic, quite possibly the worst thing you could do.
I've found taxi drivers quite reasonable. I think the majority might have just come to realise there's nothing they can do about us, and we don't want to get hit, they don't want to damage their £30,000 car and just want to get on with their job.
asm Y'know what you said about the hanky going black? That's the tube for you. it's why we're on bikes in the first place!
I vaguely remember a British Medical Journal investigation into air pollutants in London. Turned out you inhaled less pollution on a bike than any other form of transport, even walking, because of your position in relation to the cars. seems strange, I know, might try and find the report...
dogsballs ... most numpty flouro brompton riders don't have any common sense riding a bike in central london!
Hey! I ride a Brompton (not by choice, mind, grrr stupid uni hall rules) and I wear a fluro jacket (stupid dark months!) and I'm not a numpty rider :)
