if you stand at one end of a platform and look down the other end it's always a bit fuzzy because of the airborn particles of carbon, dust, dead skin, and grease floating in the air. the tube network does have a machine that cleans as it passes through the tunnels but it was out of service for a couple of months which TFL tried to keep quiet.
