I ride with 10mm cuts (glass cuts) in slicks on an MTB, they've been there for months - pressures up to 60psi.
How much pressure do you put in them? 5mm should be ok as long as you don't have them rock hard.
If you skid lots I'd watch the edges of the cut for fraying, you may tear it open more while skidding.
