  • I know it's not really bikes but is anyone into the seasonal section of the beer aisle?

On Sunday i picked up a few bottles to wet my whistle and settle me into the Sunday Times. I purchased:

    Christmas pudding beer
    Pumpkin Beer
    some beer from Cornwall
Winter Warmer (i think this was from Youngs but not sure)

I had the Christmas Pudding beer and wasn't best pleased. I do hope the Pumpkin Beer is more acceptable.

Anyone else have any seasonal beverage tales?

  • I drank a couple of pints of 'Autumn Blaze' on the weekend- I think I liked it...?
    It's not Xmas yet!

  • are you an alcoholic?? your picture is the logo for campaign for real ale....your names 'CHUG_IT' and you start a discussion about seasonal beers.....you either are or your promoting something....

  • Youngs christmas pudding ale and christmas ale USED to be very nice, but now it's brewed at the wells brewery it's gone all different. not as good IMO.

recently though I had some Badger ale, which was worth a punt, and Bath ales do an awesome thing called barnstormer.

dunno about seasonal, but there's some good stuff out there, just not Youngs anymore

  • I'm still in seasonal denial.. buying IPAs and St Peters Pale Ale last night.. :)

  • mmm st peters ale..

must get some of that shit

  • Waitrose is where I got mine. They have a large range of imported and local beers.
    They also sell Vegemite.

  • guinness. and marmite. turds as black as night.

  • Was in Paris round Christmastime last year and all the French/Belgian types were doing Christmas specials. Some of them were pretty good - and not pumpkin flavoured!

  • Waitrose??

I'm too down market to peruse the selection in there.

I'm a big fan of the Barnstormer, very nice.

anyone ever come across Snecklifter or Galleon? Mightily fine ale.

niche opportunity for a bicycle beer, although the implications of drunken cyclists does not bode well for the law

  • jonny guinness. and marmite. turds as black as night.

You should get some Guinness Marmite then! (yes, it does exist, if you can track some down)

  • CHUG_IT Waitrose??

    Jennings Beer is great!

Waitrose - awesome for beer + local beer, the battersea brewery london porter is a favourite at the mo.

  • hmmm, I might have to peruse waitrose on my travels tomorrow

if they'll let me in with spd shoes and combats

  • just got back from sainsburys with a bottle of the meantime brewery winter ale and a bottle of grimburgen blonde and double
not tried the meantime yet but grimburgen is one of my favorites.

  • RPM hmmm, I might have to peruse waitrose on my travels tomorrow

accessorise with a gillet and a golden retriever and you should be okay

  • RPM Youngs christmas pudding ale and christmas ale USED to be very nice, but now it's brewed at the wells brewery it's gone all different. not as good IMO.

Thankyou! thought it was just me.

  • Snecklifter - one of the Jennings range of beers. My favourite brewery in the world. Jenning's Cumberland Ale is what I want heaven to taste like...

  • At the top of Highgate West Hill is 'The Gatehouse' - Weatherspoons so cheap, and a very good range of real ales that change weekly, plus the best treacle sponge and custard in the universe. Not only that ... but they have a large enclosed back garden which would a perfect safe place to put a bike should you want to keep an eye on it whilst drinking in the warm. Comfy and not 'high'-class at all, you would feel quite at home in cycling attire. That's my recommendation anyway.

  • In Germany "Shandy" is called "Radler" which means cyclist....it comes in a bottle with a bike on the front....similar to the bike in a "no-cycling" sign....whether all cyclists in Germany are shandy drinking woollies or whether they're just trying to encourage cyclists to drink less strong beverages....I have no idea

  • from all my experiences Teutonic, I'd wager the latter

  • Wetherspoons are still having a beer festival until the 18th. About £1.89 for a pint for good real ale. Plus if you join CAMRA via them, you'll get a whole bunch of 50p off per pint vouchers. Less than £1.50 for great pints, it's like being a stoodent!

  • but that means drinking in wetherspoons.

with a load of pissed up old gamblers

  • and students. :)

  • pah, not round 'ere mate.

all the students have got far too much money, they go to the bars I can't afford.

and they have a massive union bar with guinness @ £1.

    bastards

  • which uni is that? UAL has shit student facilities.

Sorry, no it doesnt, saint martins has shit student facilities.
