the broken one in the picture must be one of the cheap tinfoil models..? i can't imagine the stainless steel ones snapping like that.
I like egg beaters as they are soo easy to get out of, as i'm a bit of a spaz sometimes when it comes to unclipping, so i find them reassuring.
Also, they're not at all uncomfortable if you have some decent stiff shoes.
