Twisted head tube needs a fixin'

  • I've just been given a Geoffrey Butler frame from a friend which I plan to make my second fixed.

    However there is a slight problem with the frame, that is it was in a slight accident and the head tube got a little twisted out of alignment (perpendicularly) with the rest of the frame (see pic - note not my frame just an exmaple). Everything else is in perfect order but this slight twist is putting the head tube out of alignment by approximately 5-10 degrees and needs to be twisted back.

    Does anyone know who could do this? I don't have any big vices or a something to clamp the frame to prevent bending anything else if i tried to fix it myself.

    see next post for pic

  • I think what your looking for is a skip. Seriously.

  • +1, at least.

  • No, no.

    All you need is

    Hippy
    +
    Hammer.

  • Maybe I'll take some pics of the frame tomorrow. It is nowhere near as bad as I described and twist is barely noticeable - there are no kinks or bent tubing and everything else looks good (it just recently had a respray). I probably exaggerated and is less than 5ยบ off perpendicular.

    The pic above probably doesn't describe the problem particularly well. This is probably a better pic to give you an idea what i mean:

  • But it will be nearly impossible to get it a 100% true. And even then after the money you spend on it getting it true the frame will be weak because of the initial crash and the fiddling around with it afterwards. Maybe as a polo bike, but I wouldn't recommend using it to ride around to much.

  • bollocks :( was looking for a new frame to build a second bike/or something to upgrade my current one, guess it will have to wait now.

  • agree with jos...

  • Bollocks++

    A buckled polo frame it is then
