if you stuff a carrier bug up underneath then they don't get that wet from road spray, you can use the same bag to cover the saddle if you are leaving your bike out in the rain.

Ditto MrSmith , but it's worth bearing in mind that they have become something of a "common currency" in the world of the thieving feral asbotard and as such are quite rob a bal. MrSmiths plastic bag also acts as a visual deterrent for would be asbotards.

My girlfriend stashes a shower cup under hers.
Saddle, that is.
Completes the quaint, sit-up-and-beg, older-than-school nuss of the Brooks.
(Personally I opt for the "ohfuckitsraining" mad dash out the door when I'm on mine)I'm sure some of you googleophiles can no doubt russle up some, ahem, cool shower-caps...

Mmm... I had a B17 for a while. Nice and all, but a little too wide at the nose and ended up chafing my inner thighs. Traded it for a Selle Regal and I've been more than satisfied.

I got me a brooks pro with a bit of history, so far it's lovely and comfortable. My dad told me to stick a bag over it if it looks like rain (thats what he did, and hence why it hasnt had to be tightened in 20 years). Like the idea of keeping it through the rails, but I soaked mine in neats foot oil before I fitted it so it still stinks under there :S

I've retired my brooks pro after deciding that it was not as comfortable as modern saddles: this is after about 3000 miles, keeping it dry and using proofide. It also weighs shitloads. I just don't see why so many people swear by them.

Swear AT them nv55, swear AT them.. ;-)

I don't cover mine but use Nickwax to proof the leather. This has worked very well in the wet. I do now need to tighten it, not that this is a problem (anyone got a Brooks spanner, save me buying one?).
It's the Swift titanium so it doesn't way much either. They are pretty £££, but no more expensive than, say, the Fiz:ik equivalent.
It goes with my Brooks bar tape and generally the new / old look of my bike, which is a main reason for me buying it if I'm honest. Plus I like the idea of buying from a good, independent and traditional British company (please tell me this is still true!).
I think this is why people like 'em. Much like why people will buy a classic retro style bike over something modern but more technologically advanced. Yer pays yer money & takes your choice.

specialized toupe are my favourite saddles, although i must admit that after riding on a friend's swift i do think it's comfy...my new ride is gonna have a storika, apparently very comfy...we'll see...even though it came from a very reliable source so i'm pretty confident it'll be just as good as the toupe.

I've got a brooks spanner. Is that monthly social ride still happening? I can bring it to the next one perhaps.

I got a black Brooks B17 championship narrow from ebay for mine. Guy said it had only been ridden a few times. Looks great, but is a bit heavier than a modern seat. It's a bit uncomfortable at the moment, but it is rock hard, so I'm going to try and wear it in. As for the wet, not ridden in the rain with it yet. I've proofhide the underneath and with my short journey's it shouldn't be out in the rain too long.
Might try the plastic bag underneath the seat trick.

Lovely saddles but some of them are super-weighty.
The Charge Spoon is a good alternative for the tan leather brown look, very little money compared to others (£20).
I like the stuff on this site:

I got a Brooks B17 narrow, I love the way it looks on my bike
Unfortunately after about twenty miles continuous riding I loose ALL feeling in my gentlemans bits
Now this might be due to the unhealthy habit of riding a track bike for hour upon hour on end
But I will be trying a different saddle on my new bike

I know of at least two brookes saddles having been nicked...

[cite] Max:
http://www.wallbike.com/content/butchering.htmlNot too tricky- leather cuts pretty easily. Got a cheap old Team Pro of eBay and took a knife to it. Despite wobbly hand it ended up with a profile more like a swallow. You do have to string it to support it which makes it look a bit bondage though. And watch out for elderly second-hands- the leather around the brass studs is starting to go on mine

The Swallow is really nice - good bit of 'spring' in it and beautiful looks, not cheap though.

Here's some pics of my brooks B17. I hate having to remove my lights everytime I park up and leave the bike somewhere and the hassle of leaving the lights off and getting caught out in the dark. So I've got some Knogs (as I only really ride on lit roads) and fitted one under the seat. The orange sainsbury bag, for when it rains, also lights up at night, giving a good output. Hopefully I can leave the light their 24/7 without too much fear of it getting nicked.
Daily use has enforsed me to contenplate a new saddle..how do "Brooks"saddles fair in the wet ? Any way i will leave that with you as i now have to go to bed with the delightful Lizzy to watch a art house film and share bottle of vino..sleep well my unknown friends.....
