lemond is 450 here to..is there much between the 4 frame wise? phewwww were nearly there lol

• #229
well the Langster is aluminium. Not really that classic. A bit more jarring ride than steel so I'd remove that from the list if it was me.
-
• #230
If I'd had the cash it'd have been a Lemond Filmore for me because I like the idea of having the full bars/hoods etc.
-
• #231
is steel better for the single/fixed? the dolan is Alu to

Aluminium is fine for track bikes because they run around tracks. If you're wanting to use it on the street though Aluminium is really not what you want. Steel gives a lot more give and also because it's stronger they use more slender tubes which in most peoples eyes are more aestheticaly pleasing.

so steel. you are down to two now. time to pin the tail on the donkey

• #236

get in the ring, muthafucker.

Lemond if you think you'll want to use roadie style brakes etc. and maybe run the freewheel. Fuji if you want a good cheap bike.

You can run a freewheel and brakes on the Fuji - It has a drilled rear bridge and comes with a flip-flop hub

Hey aj, at the end of the day you can get a ton of opinions and tech info on here and tons more on other forums as linked earlier but everyone is different and one man's meat and all that...
Only way, once you have narrowed it down, is to visit the shops, sit on all the bikes in the correct sizes, see how they feel and preferably ride them and then make a decision.
You can't base it on one person saying; '"Buy the Kona, Fillmore, Pista, Langster...etc; the Fuji, Paddy Wagon, Plug..etc is sh1t, brilliant, ok...etc
- delete as appropiate.

I meant roadie style brakes as in proper road bike brakes. It's possible on the Fuji I know and I think I'm going to do that but the Lemond has them already.

I can't believe all these giants (well, ok, two of you) that don't find the Fuji to be small. Mine gets so uncomfortable after about 45-50 miles or so. Drops or risers make no difference. But hey, whatever works for you.
Seriously, at 6' and riding a 56cm, I get so many people randomly telling me that my bike's too small for me.

i got a fuji track back in '02 and i still have it today. Since then my stable has grown to include a Peloton, a Nagasawa, and a Ciocc, so the fuji doesn't really get ridden that much anymore. After putting a lot of miles on the fuji you will notice that it creaks a lot. changing the drive train will help this. That said, all i changed was the wheelset/cog, the bars/stem, and the chainring bolts (those motherfuckers seemed to fall out an abnormal amount), and even though the cranks & chainring are crap, they still work and i'm too lazy/broke to do anything about them.
You will definatly want to upgrade your bike once you get riding, it's a desease, resistance is futile. So get the ghetto fuji and get riding today...
I am glad to have the fuji as a beater that I can take traveling with me, and not have a panic attack every time i check it on the plane.
my 2 sence

Just kidding! But if you see something similar in 62+cm lemme know... :-D
1)Specialized langster £399 Aluminium (if that bothers you)
3)Charge £400 (Heavy PG frame, components not great for the money)
4)Doyle complete bike with kadet frame £475 (no comment)
5)Kona paddy wagon £450 (I already wrote too much on this above)
5)Fuji £270 (Are you sure anyone has stock of these at £270 - please let me know if so!)
and the wildcard Specialized Tricross Single £450 (different thing altogether)
And as per my big anal post above consider the Fillmore too...
