okay so im cycling down clerkenwell road about half an hour ago...the traffics busy so taking it a bit easy. I approach a zebra crossing but my view is obscured by a van to my right.
some people have just stepped on to the pavement to my left and the van appears to be moving off. I slow down as i approach but assume the path is clear so dont make a complete stop.
Then this geezer steps out from behind the van on the crossing in front of me...i slam my front brake on but kind of see that i might go in to him so i swerve to the right of him in front of the van.
there was easily about a foot of clearance to my left. Okay im thinking close call....then the guy purposefully steps back and rams his shoulder in to me as i pass knocking me to the ground...feet in straps...nice.
Now i know that i should have stopped and not taken for granted that there was no one there, but i made a split second decision that stopped me from going in to him and knocking him to the floor.
whats the craic? would have chibbed the gadgie but he was about 55
