I will add that my cranks are octalink (not D.A though). I do run a break but I still skid a reasonable amount, the cranks have prob about 7.5k miles on them and they are fine (touch wood). I do check them for looseness every so often but not another care is lavished upon them. I am fairly light weight at around 70 kg and run 52 x 18 which is 76 g.i (calculated for a 700 cc with 23 mm tyre) for reference.
This is not to say that octalink is fine as mine is only one case but it is my experience.
