Packing up for a Flight

  • So I spend alot of time in Colorado, and I have been trying to buy a bike there to ride, but no luck (almost had a deal sealed on an old Bianchi pista with a rear HED), so I thought I would fly out there with one of mine next week. The airline says the box must be less than 120cm (63") length+width+height! You can bring a golf bag, a surf board, regardless of size! HAS ANYONE PACKED SUCH A THING SUCCESSFULLY? I do not trust the postal service, otherwise I would ship.

  • most bike bags are just about 1.2m in length. same goes for boxes you can get from LBS. have it as compact as possible. stuff some foam/bubble wrap into it. i had a 1.1m long box from my LBS once and that was fine for my mtb.

  • I took my bike to the Chicago recently. It's fine, just buy a bike bag from Evansfor it. The expensive one that they do is the minimum I'd say was acceptable.

  • Just after I posted this I found an old peugeot, turned fixed with rear paul, front phil, for $100us! in Colorado.

  • nice deal. VERY nice.

  • i thought there were a LOT of fixed geeks in colorado (or denver at least)

oh, and i'll take a bike off your hands for $100 if you need to free up some cash for your new wheels ;)

  • virgin allow free bike
