A random but slighty linked question. Given a flat surface, how much further can you get on a geared bike than on a fixed gear bike for the same amount of effort. My brother's doing 50 miles at the weekend and asked me if I'd be up for going but I don't think I could do 50 miles. The most I've done is 10 miles but whenever I'm on the bike I'm going as fast as I can. Am I just an idiot who needs to learn to conserve energy?
