on the "cheap alternative side" i believe that some taiwanese companies unveiled cheap carbon composite wheels at this years interbike. i believe they're considerably heavier, yet not necessarily sturdier, than normal aerospokes. but if 'looks' is all that you want to achieve, go for it. if like RPM said, you want to go faster on the track, then start saving because you'll probably want something that costs twice as much as an aerospoke, and not just a front one.
