  • Report him. Find damage done to your bike, ask for compensation.

  • One reason I have for veering toward 'report him' is that he may always be doing stuff like. If he gets reported six times in a month, even for minor stuff then he needs disciplining and probably will be. If your report is isolated then he will be fine and no harm is done.

    my $0.02

  • jonny shit man, just glad you are alright. aren't you still nursing a bad rib? lucky that didn't get exacerbated

yeah, annoying thing was I've had a few days off the bike to properly rest it (the rib not the bike)!

think I've decided to at least send an email.
If he gets punished, so be it. If not, I haven't lost anything by it, just hope he'll be a little more reluctant to open the door willy-nilly.

  • I'm always looking out for this happening as the same thing happened to me last year. The bus (long bendy), was nowhere near the stop and hadn't even began to pull over. Tons of room on the inside so I cut through and this guy steps off into my path. I headbutted the side of his head so hard we were both in pain. I was angry but felt sorry for him too. The driver then continued, passed the stop, and kept going. I ended up walking to calm down.
I have since expected it to happen at times...and it has! I give the driver a warning everytime and have since started banging on the side of the bus when I'm passing on the inside. I feel the driver should be reported in order to raise the issue for future bus training. Two people could have been seriously injured.

Then there's the incident of people opening their car doors without looking! Makes me soooo mad!

There's got to be cycle friendly rules and regulations given on all driving tests.

  • hope you're alright rob, if it doesn't take you long to send an email, just do it, at least you're letting it out(?)
for the above reasons i always ride right when i see a bus (or HGV, you know!)... other motorists can give me the horn whatever i just don't want any accidents...

  • [sanctimonious tone] Don't ride down the inside of buses, or any other high / long vehicle. [/sanctimonious tone]

Sorry, but I couldn't resist. And it really does make sense, for me anyway.

    YMMV

Oh and Rob, get well soon dude.

  • don't ever ever go inside a bendy bus, you're seriously looking to get killed! since riding fixed i rarely undertake cars or buses. go down middle of road.

  • freaky, i posted that at exactly the same time!

  • Great minds and all that, Dale :-)

  • no worries, I wasn't hurt badly, just banged up my hip and hand.

yes, I know. I normally do right-side traffic but there was more room on the bike lane due to the all the traffic that was about from the football based diversions.
    lesson learned.

and another thing, how many bike lanes have you been on that are actually ridable ride-able smooth to ride on? shocking, all of 'em!

  • thinking that the other day, bike lanes have more crap, glass, paint, grippy stone shit, than the normal road.

  • Have to say, i've done the same thing, spotted space on the left, gone for it and on occasion been caught out by mindless drivers - even when it's a cycle lane!
I don't use the cycle lane for the same reason - loads of glass and crap, and lets be honest, most cars ignore them anyway, as they do the cycle advance box at some junctions!
By no means a saint, but I ride with self preservation in mind, and if that means I annoy an occasional driver - tough! I drive and ride a scooter (classic 60s not T+G) too,
so I know how much room is needed - but most don't!

  • friend put the fear of god into me about kerb strike so I'm heading down the right side of traffic pretty much constantly, then slip back to the left once traffic eases and keep a good distance from the kerb at all times. do dive down the left hand side, but only when there's an ocean of space, and I can get past with time to spare.

  • i never undertake. ever. scares me when i see people doing it.

Hit the engine cut off under the flap at the back. its the achilles heel. they have to get an engineer out to start it again and another bus for the passengers.

bit screwing for the passengers, but will teach the driver a lesson!

  • Rip off his head and shit down his neck.

    Then report him.

  • your anger management sessions seem to be going well tommy.... :^{ ] }

  • whisper me what time/route etc and paypal £500

I'll make sure the fucker never drives again ;)

seriously, you have to report it, really. otherwise it's not fair on:

    you
    other cyclists
    other bus drivers
    bus passengers

  • how did i guess when i saw that u posted last, what the contents of the post would be roughly?!??!

  • and you think im grumpy!

  • you cheeky fuckers!

    aidan, that's justice, not grumpy.

wayne, that looks more like you than me!

(although I do have a mask like that)

  • *(although I do have a mask like that) *and a noose, and a knife, and night vision goggles...

  • ooooh..

no NV goggs, but they are on my christmas list ;)

  • Maybe if you're hurt and have photographic evidence of your injuries you could get compensation and buy your dream bike. I'm sure you could muster up a few witnesses

  • Complain.
Companies are required by law to act on this shit. Even if it's only noted in their stats, every little helps (wtf does that mean anyway?!).
I posted before on someone in Oz reporting a bus driver and the driver receiving disciplinary action.

TFL or was it PCO don't take reports of dodgy taxi drivers though (I got the email that says they don't) so you might need to speak to the cops.
Hmm.. was it a London bus or a tourist bus? Reading thread might help. Report report report.
