  • Good work. Glad you liked Nottingham. I still really like the place (hence the reason I stuck around so long).

I know of Ned Kelly. Good point really about the Royalty etc... I still find it a bit odd though. I suppose it makes us seem a bit edgy and dangerous (as if the gun crime don't do that well enough).

Fade is a good bar, but it's only halfway (or slightly more) up Mansfield Rd. There are a couple more bars after that worth checking out. One is the Loft which is a bit "cool" the other was the bar that backed onto the Maze nightclub, not sure if its still open though cause the club shut down.
Also my local was The Angel for a time too. Mostly cause my housemate was friends with the bar manager. It was pretty cool, I could just walk in and stand by the bar and they'd pour me a Guinness Extra Cold before I'd uttered a word. Awesome.

The Church that became a Pitcher and Piano isn't a bad bar really inside. Kind of a shame they had to turn it into a bar though. Thing is the atmosphere in there is generally crap cause all music sounds shit in the massive room and the ppl there are often twats.

Although I don't know much about whats cool or not there anymore.

  • Nope, I'm a total disappointment.. geared Ribble Audax :)

  • that looks like a really cozy trip. i can't wait to get outside of london.

  • It was pretty cool, yeah. Highly, highly, highly recommend getting out of London.
Yeah riding in traffic is fun and all but god damn is it nice to see some countryside, grind up some hills, fly down the other side, smell the horse shit, actually ride long enough to bonk, run out of water, get properly lost..
I think I've turned into an old man.. anyone wanna trade some fixies for a tourer? :)

  • hippy actually ride long enough to bonk

    huh?

The term "bonk" for cycling fatigue is presumably derived from the original meaning "to hit", and dates back at least half a century. A recent DVD issued by the British Transport Films Collection contains several old films, one of which entitled "Cyclists Special", a colour film produced in 1955, tells the story of a party of cyclists touring the English countryside. At one point they stop for refreshments and the film's commentator states that if they didn't rest and eat they would get "the bonk". Source: "See Britain by Train", British Transport Films Collection 2005, Volume Two, Disc One, Track Three.

The term can be used both as a noun ("hitting the bonk") and a verb ("to bonk halfway through the race"). This condition is also known to long-distance (marathon) runners, who usually refer to it as "hitting the wall". It is also referred to as the "green grass" as pupil dilation causes vivid hues to appear.

  • i thought it was an american term. in aus "hit the wall" or you are FUBAR :p

  • bonk is used in Aus, so is 'hunger flat', hittin the wall, running on fumes, etc..
