buddha cutting them off is no problem, you just want to keep the heat subjected to the frame to a minimum. So cut off all the cableguides etc with the dremel, then grind off the stub, rather than grinding off the whole bloody lot, and you should be fine and dandy.
For the aero covers, you could try buying some paper plates? the wheels look about the right size :)
