you usually need an etch primer for the paint to hold and stop the metal from oxidising (in my car painting experience). aluminium/alloy stuff can be clearcoated more effectively

my mates cannondale track, stripped and clearcoated

It was huge in BMXing a few years back. Virtually evey company did a raw metal/clearcoat frame, fork and bar.
So it's definitely possible to do it with Steel. -

Funny, I was thinking of that as an idea for my next build?
It would look pretty cool I think, suppose it depends on frame condition? -

The buyer said they never received that frame! So, after a paypal dispute, I basically made no money on it.

a very heavy overpriced nut, so a bit like a coconut then?
In some roadie magazine I saw pictures of a top market bike that
featured a interesting frame style. It was brushed bare metal !
Onl clear matt lacquer was on !
I fell in love with the look and the idea is kylie minoguing me since.
How does a sandblasted frame look ? Is it smooth and even or bumpy ?
has anyone pictures of something similar done before ?
Would the weld seams still look as perfect without paint over it ?
would the clear coat blister off without primer ?
