  • In some roadie magazine I saw pictures of a top market bike that
    featured a interesting frame style. It was brushed bare metal !
    Onl clear matt lacquer was on !
    I fell in love with the look and the idea is kylie minoguing me since.
    How does a sandblasted frame look ? Is it smooth and even or bumpy ?
    has anyone pictures of something similar done before ?
    Would the weld seams still look as perfect without paint over it ?
    would the clear coat blister off without primer ?

  • you usually need an etch primer for the paint to hold and stop the metal from oxidising (in my car painting experience). aluminium/alloy stuff can be clearcoated more effectively

  • my mates cannondale track, stripped and clearcoated

  • It was huge in BMXing a few years back. Virtually evey company did a raw metal/clearcoat frame, fork and bar.
    So it's definitely possible to do it with Steel.

  • Funny, I was thinking of that as an idea for my next build?
    It would look pretty cool I think, suppose it depends on frame condition?

  • Here's my old ALAN i built around 6 months ago ...(Remember me racing you with it, peejay? :D). Looks surprisingly similar to that cannondale posted above (?)...

  • thats cos it's wearing the phils/wheels you sold, tubeset is way fatter on the cannondale tho' :^{ ] }

  • There's a second hand complete bike for sale with a stripped IRO frame in Cavendish cycles.

    46 12 should be the same chainstay length as 42 16 (if my memory is right) which is a great gear for London

  • ive put all the gears back on it now, and use it as the road bike it was designed to be
