RPM vs Sugino RD?
Any thoughts?
What is the difference with the sugino 75s, and is it worth waiting until I have the extra coin?
-
• #31
I've got RPM's they're cheap but work pretty well. No problems so far and I've had e a couple of months, ridden close to a thousand miles I'd say...

sugino RD (or GD) i think use the bmx 140mm?? BCD, so it's cool if you want to run 44T or 42T chainrings. but harder to find things 46T and very hard for 48T
sugino 75's are the top end light weight purpose built track crankset, which are good as dura-ace and campy, but not as expensive (still expensive though, especially for colours)

RD"s run 130bcd rings, sorry dogs

The suginos look like a better buy.
I'd rather spend extra on hubs/rims than the crankset to be honest.

I'm still torn between RPM and something with 144BCD for the chainrings I've got.
Anyone got a Brompton for sale?

sorry dogs.........those GT sugino's are 110bcd.........geeeeeeeeeezz!!! ;o)

dogs mentioned these ones to me today.. anyone got these?
To me they look horrible but to the little hommie who's ripping off my bike they might actually be more appealing than some old road cranks..
-
• #39
but a length of old inner tube over them tape up the ends they will look shit enough.
-

fark it i'll just shut me trap, damn chainsets, JIS ISO BCD HOMO BS PITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took some Autosol to a set of the 165mm Bulletproof cranks today and the dodgy lettering came straight off!
They look way better in plain, polished silver + you can pick up a quality Goldtec ring for these babies for £10...
-
• #42
Where would I find the Goldtec £10 chainring?

sorry to drag this thread up again.
those using RPM cranks, how do the stock rings hold up??? they feel pretty cheap so I'm considering swapping it out for a better ring.
and yes,i know RPM cranks aren't great, but i ain't got much money!

you will change your chainline as the rpm ones have a weird dish, which may create a few issues ;)

yup, i discovered that last night. it might actually help in my case to get a 'straight' chainring. all part of my quest for the elusive 42mm chainline.

what about these? i've got them on my bike, they're cheap.

yeh, the cranks seem good to me, the ring is circular enough, and 18months of riding in london without maintenance and they still spin on the bb well, and are still tight. the ring looks cheap, but works well enough..?

Hi just bought an Octalink carbon RPM double crankset to replace a triple but splines seem to be slightly different they look the same but don't fit, I can only assume that the crankpin isn't the same as there seems to be a few different options but no info on what fits what, any info greatly appreciated.

Which version octalink? 1 has shorter splines and two longer ones.
i dont need to calculate my gear i just wanted to know what the Bolt Circle Diamater was.
