I just visualise it if it happened in real life:
20 people standing around outside a pub talking bikes, and a stranger walks up and asks "anyone gay here?".
You can't help but understand why most people would think, "What business is it of yours, and why does it matter?".
If you want to do a social ride, just outline your idea, put it in a thread and see if anyone takes any interest. Or start a thread and ask people to whisper you about it if they're concerned about their privacy.
