A guy did the same thing in NYC. It's on YouTube. He uses hacksaw, bolt-cutters, angle grinder.. broad daylight.. no one bothers him.
I have the UK one on my Sky box. Dunno if you can record off them or not. Just not nerdy enough to find out these days..
