ok, i've now adapted this a bit further... have started from brompton ==> kensal rise ==> highgate ==> abney park (stoke newington) ==> tower hamlets ==> STOPPED as i want to go to bed! the map is one of the ones that does mileage - as you can see, not a short distance already, plus people wanna go on...

nb, i should point out that htere are bits alongside canals, which we can avoid if need be. i also don't know what the hills are like (are there any?!) on route, which way we'll be approaching them, etc, so ideas welcomed.
