Yeah, bully for him. Any imitators will probably end up in casualty.

The very same day that my rear brake cable snapped when SS I was unable to stop at some lights and crashed badly (also some rider error), fractured my patella, wrote off a frame, and caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to an innocent car driver. If I had 2 brakes I almost certainly would have been OK..
Confession: Even after recovering I ran SS with only a front brake (being cheap) for a couple of weeks - but very carefully and being super-aware of road hazards. I feel better now I've got that off my chest. Whew! -

"He does this thing regardless of what people say.

I love the bit when he's riding no handed with a deck in each hand, then crashes, with a voice-over of "yeah i know how and when to bail..."
you couldn't write a better spoof comedy sketch...

the front wheel takes 75% of the force from a deceleration.
I bare you the physics.
No Skid can be a better then an average brake 'user'.
And this is ignoring the time needed for correct leg position
Its just done for street cred to go brakeless'die and learn' http://www.darwinawards.com

if you wanna slide you gonna die! one day there will be that time when all you need is 50cm before you get crushed by that hgv. i've been a courier for 7 years and no way will i ride brakeless on my fix. i've seen enough bodies under buses and known i could have been one of them many a time without a brake.

Just in case anyone has any misapprehensions, here in SF, Ted Shred's name is a byword for 'dickhead'. Please don't think he represents the SF bike scene mentality.
He really is an epic idiot.

i thought this forum was all about the peace and love of riding.
Damnit boys, who cares what you ride, if you like it, and are safe, fuck it.To many the fixed gear thing is a trend, and fuck em too.
That dickhead in SF is exactly that, no matter what, no brakes *on a SS*= fucking retard.
i like brakes- because i haven't developed the skills, and truly like the emergency brake i have. And people around me are idiots
Right.
Thats my piece.Good night.

This topic will be light r_d l_ghts on the C+ forum or the h_lm_t debate.. but I'll comment anyway :D
It's okay saying if you're safe then you don't need brakes blah etc.. but what about the split second when brakes might've stopped you running into Mrs Innocent crossing the street? But before you brakeless dudes jump up, there's more - last night a roadie almost took out a ped racing through a red to beat little old me down a hill. Two brakes, gears, etc.. and yet.. a twat. No way! :)
I will always run brakes and always suggest people run brakes but methinks this issue is more to do with riders knowing or not knowing their bikes. Just ride safe.. there's enough cnuts in trucks and cars ready to take you out without DIY.

Know your body
Know your bike
Know your abilities
Know your limitations
Know the streetRide accordingly -edit-
I do
which well, he does..
just let him be, it's not easy but it's doable.. Not sure if he's bombing those hills everyday or if he was just bragging for the video, but it's his own problem really..
