To an untrained eye, seems fine. What am I looking out for?
-
• #53
usually cars, lorries and bus'es ;^)
-
• #54
Why do I bother??? ;o)
-
• #55
i'm getting an odd sound from my rear end at times (ha ha ha). Think it might be my chain too tight. a pity i cant be bothered to change it
-
• #56
hehe,
na, the line should be dead straight as it goes over the front cog, sight it from the back.
fixed generally makes move noise under pressure,(than a freewheel), when your ressisting mostly, make sure your chain isn't too tight either.oh, yeah also look out for a brakeless black and white condor rider...
-
• #57
You got a new ride??
-
• #58
nope, but there is a rider out there crashing into one of our girls.......grrrrrrr!!!!
-
• #59
Which idiot would ride w/o brakes :oP
-
• #60
some mad, daft fecker...:)

So, you've got noise coming from either front hub, headset, bottom bracket and/or rear hub?
Are there any bearing locations on your bike without binding and/or noise?! :PHow tight is your chain? Wait, you said tension was good. Hmm.. sounds totally pschological to me! HTFU! :P
Um.. shit.. running out of ideas.. tyre pressure? What are the wheels like for trueness - are they straight?
If it's only when riding, then maybe chain incompatible with chainring/sprocket. How long were you riding SS before moving to fixed? Chain could be worn.

iff your spokes are really losse, your noise could be the nipples ratteling in the eyelets, this would make more noise when you skid... i have never head of this happening to any one, but on a pratce wheel i managed to ffuck the build and do the spokes so porly that one was ratteling...

@ Hippy: Yes, suitably vague I know.
@ Vegans: Chatter does seem to be coming from wheels/hubs but spokes aren't THAT loose!I think it may be a case of cleaning and regreasing all of the bearing points - hasn't been done since the bike was bought over a year ago. And also letting someone who knows more about it than me to look at my bike.
Bearing in mind I dont have many tools, or any kind of workshop, I'm thinking this is beyond my capability. Where can I take my bike and ask the questions put to you above where they're not going to a) look at me like something on the bottom of their shoe b) not be able to do anything for 2 weeks?

Do you have any play in the hubs? Grab the rim, can you move it easily? Will get chatter if your hubs are loose - might have worn bearings etc. Have you check for broken spokes?
Lift the front wheel of the ground a few cm by grabbing the bars, when you drop the bike, is there chatter? Can you locate it?
Sounds like you do need to get someone who knows a little about mechanics to look at it. Try phoning around your LBSs to get it booked in for a service (or at least an apprasial). I'd happilly come and have a look at it for you, but I don't live in London.

Thanks Pip, will try what you suggest with wheels and then throw money at problem (I am a Condor Pista driver after all).

is your chain fully lubed?? mine makes some noises when getting dry/cruddy.
i also found one of my toe straps bindings were moving about and making a really anoyying ticking.
or could be the lead filling inside your frame moving about??!! :p

I got rid of a terrible creaking noise by cleaning and re-lubing seatpost / tube.
Easy diagnosis if that is the problem - does it still make noises when you're out of the saddle? If not, then home in on that region.

Come to polo and ask there. Someone will at least be able to diognose the problem even if there are not the tools around to fix it. I think we are going to have ago a playing tomorrow.

I were in CONdor one time and this dude with a titanium Colnago shuffles in.
It's Sat morn, but he thinks he's gonna get it serviced on the spot.
CONdor dude explains it ain't gonna happen, and says:
"Didn't you buy this about eight months ago?"
"Indeed I did."
"So why are you bringing it in for it's first service now?"
"I wasn't told there was a time limit!"
"EH?"
"I was told to come back after 200 miles...."

i was in cyclesurgery this evening and some french guy came in with a shit folding bike (there was an identical one on sale for 299 in the shop) that had a punctured front tire. He was asking the bemused assistant whether it was covered by warrantee, "err, no", then paid TEN POUNDS to have them fit a new inner tube, left the bike there, and walked out the shop on foot! What a nonce.

Again the French run away.

I'd crank extract and clean the BB axle with a cloth. THEN I'd tighten up the saddle to the post. I noticed this was creaking recently and thought for ages it was drivetrain, but infact it's just the saddle.

I'd regrease and tighten the pedals too. Let's face it, pinpointing a noise isn't that easy when you're actually on the bike. Reckon it's best to make a start on the stuff that's less hassle to do, before you start dismantling your ride. So that means clean and lube the chain, and sort out the pedals and the seat post.
It might be easier just to wear your iPod on the bike. :-)
check yer chainline...
