vegansdontneedgears iff you chose to run a breake on a non-mechined rim it will not work, and it will mark your rim up. my ffreind tryed it on her kerin with non-mechined deep Vs she hit a kerb... it was funny.

Off course it will work. Machined braking surface has only been around for 10/15 years. It will just take a little while to wear in the sides of the rim to create your own braking surface. Be sure to adjust your brakes very well though so that you don't get brake marks all over the place.
