but bob jacksons are pretty cheap, when it come down to it.
something secondhand from roberto or jos?

Yeah secondhand would be ideal I guess. You're right about BJs.. when it comes down to it, for the product, it's very cheap, but in relation to the amount of money I have it's something that needs some thinking about.
I've been spying on Robertos stuff but none of it's much good to me, nice as it is. Too small. I haven't seen any of Jos' gear.

I'm in Dublin. Unfortunately London's slightly out of the way. Lord knows why I'm even on this forum!

Your chainring bolts prob fell out first and then the chainring bent. Keep an eye on chain ring bolts on fixed gears as they have a funny habit of loosening off quite easily.
If you want a frame with clearance and long distance geo then the BJ frames would be great. However, a decent road frame (e.g. a nice 531 frame) would be a lot cheaper and just as suitable. Should be able to find some good candidates on Irish ebay or local ads. Most true track frames will have less clearance, may not be drilled and won't be as comfortable over long distances.

Make sure you've got thread lock on your chainring bolt threads.
I could feel my pedals vibrating at particular points of the pedal stroke - located it to the chain ring bolts. One was on the verge of falling out!
Lots and lots of thread lock.

It may be that your chain was too tight. I had the same thing happen to me a few months ago and I've been told that that was probably the reason.

Cheers for the help lads. It sucks being bikeless. I might aswell be legless.
I know the chain wasn't too tight cuz I generally keep the slightest bit of play in it.
I was making for the coast this morning when I came grinding to a halt at a set of lights, I was bloody lucky I was only setting off.
My chainring bent itself to fuck and two of my bolts had fallen out.. I dunno how the jaysus it happened. It's the most frustating thing in the world.
Now I'm considering going for a Fixed specific frame instead of upgrading the parts on my conversion to make it work better. You can't polish a turd.. So I've got a decent set of wheels so that will take the bite out of putting a new bike together.
Any reccomendations? I'm tossing around the idea of getting a Bob Jackson but they're fierce expensive.. I want something classic looking with enough clearance for a front brake and relaxed enough geometry to be able to ride long distances without feeling like dying.
