  • Well, since schools and uni's have been back the commute to work has been a pain, due to the increase in traffic and particularly stupid riders. What's the go with these stupid numpty's trying to race you down hill at every chance. i move fairly well on the flat, through traffic or even up hills; passing lots of riders. but everytime i reach something like regents park i hear the furious thumb shifting of gears and whoosh of fluoro clad middle aged balding man pumping his pale white legs with his knees and feet splayed like a duck. of course i tack on the back (although funny atm with 44:16 and fly past on the flat. but what's the go????

Anyway, decided to leave a little bit earlier today ie 7.30, fark, what a difference fewer numpty's and less traffic. no more sleeping in :(

  • yeah i leave at 7 and the roads are sooooo much better even going through vauxhall. i think the mongs of london wake up later.

  • I'm a 7 leaver too. when I do leave later I just LOL all the way in coz the traffic is solid up the Kings Road!! Nippy thru Richmond Park this morning tho!! I no longer chase overtakers either....too many of them and I can't be arsed....always catch them up at the lights or in the traffic. Either way, I'm in no big hurry to get to work or to get home for that matter.

  • dogsballs, you're just too slow...

  • didn't see you keeping up with me up kentish twn rd the other day?! :p

  • yeah, i'm even slower. it's a disgrace, really.

  • Just leave at the usual time, but ride at 164mph. Everything will feel okay...

  • in my defence, i am riding a bargain basement allez road bike which chainrings are really worn ...so i'm really scared of riding hard incase the chain falls off!

probs why i'm scared of riding with spd shoes..

  • That is what the Dunwich was like:

After cresting the top of some hill all you'd hear in the distance (after passing someone on the flat or uphill) was "clunk, clunk" as they rammed their bike into 53/11 and shot past you.
You then overtake them again in short order.
    Repeat Ad Infinitum for 200KMs.

  • Yep I try to leave early or a bit late riding between 8 - 9 can be a horrible expearice, a few more cold snaps and it will thin out the muppets.

  • Enough of the hating, people!

It's great that they're on bikes and I hope they continue through the winter. I saw so many cyclists coming down from Theobold's Rd to Holborn at 0900 this AM - completely dominated the traffic, drivers had to give them space. Amongst the 'muppets' I saw 5 fixies (I was a GIRL) and 1 SS - all in the space of 500 yards. Made me smile.

(But then I was walking this AM and didn't have to put up with some of the irritating behaviour outlined above).

  • yeah, the office bods start at 9am, so most only need to be on the road from 8 onwards.

when I used to do big miles, I left at 7 and never had any problems, but there wasn't as many cyclists in those days.

the furious thumb shifting of gears and whoosh of fluoro clad middle aged balding man pumping his pale white legs

yes, why is it these fucks only go fast in the parks? (where there are signs saying ride slowly, and I do take it easy, parks are just cut throughs if you fancy getting out of the rat race for a minute, not a race track)

I've had blokes nearly killing themselves to get past me, when I'm not even trying.

steadier, smoother riding with more awareness is what's required from some people. More speed less haste.

now, I'm fucking off before this all goes C+

  • Edit - "1 was a girl". This is not me subliminally announcing a transsexual past.

  • Of course I would rather have muppets on a bike than in a car but I would rather muppets would just stay at home all together.

  • Best. Kids. TV. Ever.

    thundercats you buffoon.

  • magic round-about . man!

  • Yeah... this morning was hell cutting through the park:

  • used to watch that all the time, great!!!

  • i love the muppet pic, i saw that before.

i leave for work at 645, it's really quiet. if i leave at seven thirty i get all crotchety on account of the other cyclists.

this morning was blissful. i was full of the joys of life and enjoyed the beauty of the morning, everything was 'all bright and glittering'.

  • Early rides in are good, but there's no way to avoid the tossers on the way home.
OK, no comments required on this sensitive topic, but I stop at red lights [it's just a fact and, I suppose, a personal choice]. But why is it that at every red the same gang of grannies, wheezy old gits on butchers bikes and anyone else who maxes out at 8.4mph feels it necessary to cruise past to the front of the queue just to make me overtake them for the 77th time when we get a green?

I'm working on the bar-mounted laser cannons to clear the way, but while they're in development I just content myself with strategically timed gaseous emissions.

  • I watched some suit in an old butchers / bakers bike barge his way obnoctiously past people on High Holbourn on thursday morning, he than sat blocking the only gap through traffic with his massive basket. I wanted to ask him about his bike but he semmed like such a twat I did not want to speak to him.

  • had a bloke swear at me under his breath becasuse i had the audicty to give way to a lorry on a narrow road with cars parked down it, it didnt seem to bother him that if i had tryed to squeeze downthe side: 1. my pedal would have struck the curb pushing me up and possibly in to or under the lorry or 2. my bars would clip (and my bars are cut down a bit) it with a similar result...the bloke driving the lorry really swung out to get round the cars, i would have been squished.
