TheBrick(Tommy) I am amazed when I see people driving along with their near side wing mirror turned in towards their door from when they parked. It is worrying that they have driven down the road without ever looking to notice the wing mirror.
I thought exactly that today, when somebody passed me too close and noticed they had their mirror turned in.
DWDCAA is against the law

Oh man, today was the worst day i've ever had on a bike ... i swear everyone was out to get me. Cars passing me giving me 30cm of room, chain kept falling off, and to top it off, some fucking idiot crashes into me cos his brakes aren't working scratching up my hand and now my front wheel is bent.
is it just me or was today shit!?

today was ok for me except for some cock-smoker on a green Condor SS (anyone on here?) who decided to, rather than wait behind me, try to squeeze in between me and a people carrier taxi thingy at traffic lights by doing that stupid shuffle where your legs are straddling the top-tube. Barges past me, almost has me over coz I've got one foot in the clips.
He just looks at me as if to say sorry so I just said "dickhead".Some people…
btw - don't have much luck with people crashing into you, do ya lpg? :-P

I felt a bit sorry for him, he had a really cheap bike and he hardly spoke english - i think he was from mongolia. He just said "this brake no work!".
I think i was partly to blame ... i was kind of turning right when i realized it was one way and i should have turned left, so i sort of go straight, towards the pavement and i spot him coming towards me .....i just stand there like a muppet waiting for him to stop but he had no brake blocks (wtf?). 3 secs later, SMACK.
Maybe i'm looking at this all wrong. Maybe brakeless geared bikes are the next big thing.

Hovis Brown Blackfriars Bridge two days ago. Cement truck, police, and a bag of ripped groceries. Not good.
Shit..so that was a cyclist too. I see the gear on road.

It was pretty mental between Farringdon Rd and Tottenham Ct Rd today - gridlocked all the way, entire lanes closed off, agitated 'professional' drivers. Was there some major incident, or was it just a cumulative thing...?

andrewleitch86 I like to pass on the right but it's quite scary when cars are going the other way. I've seen a few of the cyclist ahead boxes or whatever they're called with a lane down the middle between the two traffic lanes.
I often sail down the middle of two lines of stationary cars/buses/vans/etc.. (which puts a big grin on my face as I think how trapped they look) but occasionally catch myself thinking "what if...some pedestrian was to dodge out from in front of one of those vans, some guy just on his way home from work taking a shortcut".
That scares me, it would make enough of a mess just 1 bike + two people. I usually slow down after that, until the next set of lights.
If you thought about the dangers all the time, you'd never get on two wheels at all.
Thank fsck for adrenaline, kkeps me coming back every time!

makes me happy that i'm usually not a very aggressive rider when it comes to overtaking...
-
• #41
i am normally very aggressive in overtaking because that's actually what keeps me safe. ride right, reach the ASL as soon as i can so i don't get trapped between cars at lights. i jump lights for the same reason. when u're slow u're always the most vulnerable because it's harder to keep your balance. if not i stay behind in the middle of the lane like tommy do. buses are best in winter they keep you well warm whilst you draft.

And they give you lung cancer + artherosclerosis. One reason I am agressive about overtaking buses and trucks is jsut to avoid having to breathe in the fumes.

Odd I was buggered about by someone on a condor as well today, he kept chickening out of going between cars/buses etc, forcing me (and a couple of other cyclists) to an abrupt stop on 3 or 4 occasions. Which is rather dangerous in heavy traffic. Also it was difficult to get past him so i just had to wait it out... its bad enough having to deal with stupid drivers in brixton, but unconfident cyclists are an absolute curse.
