single speed with one brake sounds weird.go fixed!i always feel safer on my fixie rather than on my other bikes because the brakes are just some little bit of wire whereas on my fixie its the muscles of my legs that will stop me- much bigger, more responsive, more predictable than a thin bit of wire. but i do ride with a front brake at the moment (for those just in case times). i like going down hills on my fixie its nice the way you can totally relax your legs and the pedals move them up and down for you, its kinda relaxing like a massage.
