Looking for 27" rear fixed wheel

Posted on
  • trying to build up an old Holdsworth , took 28" wheels originally and need at leat 27" if i'm going to fit brakes, can anyone help?

    Thanks..

  • i've got some long reach weinmann calipers kicking around, that i know will definitely fit a 700c ;) . Actually my dawes has bigger clearance than my holdsworth, so most vintage brakes will fit easy.

  • there are two types, a shallow one (which should be fine) or the mega deep ones (which i have on my dawes, but that is a touring frame with mudguard clearance, these are hard to get). see below for the mega deep

  • thanks for the pic.. lovely bike, .. i dont think i have the ultra long calipers but it would be worth checking out.. the only thing is i have bought a beautiful front wheel that s 27" so i feel it would be woth looking for a back to match. would you say there is much difference in the ride on 27" wheels, its just that thre are people who seem to use them out of choice and those who avoid them.. ?

  • never ridden on them as finding tyres is a biatch, whereas you can get almost anything you want from any shop in 700c.

  • you want the tallest thinest tires posible... for most roling powe, and least start resistance, so 700s made 27 and 1/4s obsolete.

  • you can get Jalco rims they do 27" and get any hub you fancy and build them up. think sjs sells them.

ask teenslain, he's got a pair.
