  • a charity shop find..... acrylic / polyester terry towelling polo shirt and acrylic jumper wicks water away beautiful and warm those two alone saw me through a full winter commuting......all for a budget of 5 quid
and you should see the sparks fly as i start spinning like a van der graaf generator

  • i alway find that sort of thing warm, but i just kinda sweat without knowing it, feels kinda odd,
    dose that make sense?

  • i want a winter hat... black and tweed, but warm... what you got for me smeear?

  • email me email me email me

something in black 'n tweed should be ready an up on the blog very soon

  • what gloves would you peeps recommend?

  • wool up top, down bottom if you can stand it, tights?, knickers.

  • depending on the riding, I wear some tight leather work-gloves.

  • I second that warm and cheapish compeared to cycling gloves. I swear some of them are exactly the same as some cycling gloves I have seen.

  • Goddamn merino wool. Were's the vegan love?

  • so where do you get those leather work-gloves?

  • I got mine from a hardwear store near my fokes, they are this style

leather in bits with some stretcy materical in others. Mine have some neopream in them so they are good even when wet. My hands only really got cold after and hour or so when very wet and cold conditions, like when we had snow and i was throwing it alot then had to cycle home.

  • you'd swear those were winter gloves!

  • Merino wool rocks but moths love it. Poly tops smell rank after 1 wear, no matter of your state of personal hygiene. Howies do some really nice merino t-shirts, but wait for the sales.

Just back off holiday and gutted that we seem to have gone from a no show summer to full on winter. Did anyone stay dry on Monday? If so, what were you wearing?

Off on a bit of a tangent, can anyone recommend a winter jacket? I want something with pockets on the back that is warm & waterproof. Happy to chuck money at the problem (there's a worrying amount of Rapha in my collection these days).

  • The Endura CrossTrack is a great jacket. It's waterproof. It's only gotten really bloody cold today so I dunno how warm it is..

  • hah
this is the day where everyone goes "ooh it's cold" and "winters here!" and all that. Happens every year.

    but it's just temperate.

remember there's a day in November where it gets proper cold ice, snow and all that.

freezing breath, wooly hats, gloves, numb hands and feet.

    bring it on, I say.

  • Temperate?! It was friggin cold this arvo. Stupid city clothes.
Wore jacket this morning and then forgot it for the ride home. Stupid beer.
That 'day in Nov' you at least get time to "warm up" to..

  • winston use my head like a heat valve...

dress warm, if you over-heat take your hat off, if you get cold put it back on....it really works.

Same. I can't understand ppl who wear a hat under their helmet.

  • Why? It keeps your head warmer and the peak helps keep rain and sweat off your face.
Having said that, I only have an ear warmer thingie to go under my helmet. Don't own any cycling caps.

  • Word to that ear warmer thing hippy, I have two of them. One with velcro at the back so I can wip it off whilst riding if I get hot.

  • i keep asking questions... where can you get that ear warmer thing?

  • I think I got mine from some out doors / walking shop type place can't remember exactly. Thay do them here. They do look a bit shit but work well with a helmet.

  • Can someone recommend any relatively cheap lycra leggings that I could wear under some shorts? I want them to be thin so I don't get too hot...Last winter I only rode in shorts, but then it was very mild...the winter before that I spent as a courier and I found that some £5 lycra tights from H&M did the job, a little controversial hehe but cheap, warm and also thin so you could roll them up if you got hot...

  • These are cheap at 12 quid. Had to get my girl to run along the seams after a month or so of daily wear due to fraying thread but have lasted all right otherwise.

  • All my arm/leg/head/toe/knob warmers are from Oz, mostly Cannibal kit.
Dunno about UK brands but look for "superroubaix" material. It's like 'slightly furry on the inside' lycra and rocks!

  • how can someone who weighs 95kg get cold?!

got my new northwave winter gloves from wiggle today. mmm, polarfleece inner and neoprene outer, no more cold hands.

seem to get a lot warmer riding fixed though. hard to judge the layers.
