I don't know. Now that I've cleared that up..
Wheel and tyre makers are usually conservative with their measurements, ie. max tyre pressure is usually below what the tyre can take.
Helps to avoid those nasty lawsuit things. So, I'd try it. That's basically the extent of my point this morning. I hope you enjoy the rest of you day here.

mumble grumble... useless bleedin hippies :) (thanks for your input)
I'm hoping that is the case, its about 10% different I think, which I'm hoping would be ok, but I'd like to hear from someone who has tried, failing that does anyone know of a suitable rim that is the same spoke seat diameter and I can just swap rims over :)

I have just built a pair of wheels based on MTB "29ner" rims but I don't think they would deal anything less than 28s.(which I am running on that set)
I did fit a 23 just to see and it looked way to small/sketchy. -

download spocalc.xls (http://www.damonrinard.com/spocalc.htm - Full strength) it has lots of rim data.. it says that A319 D has ERD (eff. rim diameter) of 604.5 & A319 D 05 has an ERD of 602.5
At a glance: Mavic T217 / T233 match with 602.5 & Mavic T244 matches 604.5
1) Open spocalc.xls 2) click on the tab at the bottom saying rims 3) select from the menu bar Data - Filter - Autofilter 4) click on the arrow that appears at the top of the ERD column, scroll up and select 'sort ascending'. 5) browse away - there are 59 rims between 602 and 605mm
Hope that helps! -

there is a version for openoffice.org (free!) if you don't have MS Excel : http://home.earthlink.net/~mike.sherman/bike.html

Thanks for the spokecalc program, my 319s have an ERD of 600mm, spokes are 1mm over long and I'm using 12mm nipples. I may try a pair of cheap 700x25mm tyres and see how they look.
I'm currently running on a set of 36spoked Mavic A319 touring rims, because I'm a fat bastid and wanted good strong wheels (they were quite reasonably priced too). I've got Swalbe marathons on there in 28X700c which suit me very well. I've been looking at track frames though and 28s will be tight or possibly not even fit, so I understand tire sizing in as much as:
My rims are 19mm wide where the tyre bead sits
I've read somewhere (probably sheldon's site) that tyres should be 1.4-2.0 X rim width
so that puts me on 26.6mm minimum,
Do you think I could get away with a 25mm wide tyre, has anyone tried real skinny rubber on such a wide rim?
EDIT:
this is the dimentions off Mavic's site
ETRTO compatible size: 622 x 19c
Recommended nipple length: 12 mm
Recommended rim tape: 622 x 20 x 0.6
Recommended tire widths: 28 to 47 mm
I know 28 is the smallest reccommended but would a slightly smaller tyre still be safe?
