yeah.. I once crashed (on a bmx..) at fairly high speed into a grass path, flipped over the bars, slid on my back for a few yards and banged my head hard before stopping. I got up completely unharmed apart from the slight dis-orientation, but kept thinking if that had happened on asphalt/cement, my head would've been splattered. Started using a helmet after that and I pretty much don't notice it anymore.
