Working as mechanic?

  • Is anybody here actually working as a bike mechanic? I'm interested in what qualifications you need if any...?

  • as am i!

  • You don't rally need any qualifications most shops will just have you in for a trial day to see if your up to speed n have the right skills.

It's pretty poor pay though as is any bike shop salary.

  • yeah, i imagine the pay isn't great. What you reckon is the norm for working in a bike shop in London full-time?

  • "mercianary" has a clever nick. Is nice, i like!

  • 12-14k more for a head mechanic I recon.

  • hippy, thanks!

  • working in a bike shop sucks (apart from the trade prices) i love bikes but hate bike people?

  • do you work in a bike shop now?

  • yeah now and then, shop floor and bike building

  • mrvista i love bikes but hate bike people?

i don't know if it's this way over here, but in the US if you work at a bike shop you're either a mechanic or a salesperson, and usually the mechanic rarely deals with people.

  • yeah most bike shops work the same here to
