pends on your dropouts.
some of those bmx tensioners are so long that the bolts don't reach the drop out ends, even when you wheel is right forward.
they'll work ok on very long dropouts, like those on a condor or pompino, but not on the little ones, as on a bareknuckle.

You used to be able to get real old style chain tensioners (like you find on dutch bikes) for about a quid at the LBS. Those star ones don't fit that well on the ends of the dropouts. They just have two bolts that are supposed to push against the d'outs, but actually they flop around and scratch everything to fuck, and that was on my BMX, where they were supposed to be.
Track and road bikes have 10mm axles almost always.
Try and get the old style ones, they work in the same way as the 25 quid MKS NJS stamped ones.

anyone know if this chain/ rear wheel tensioner would work on a fixed and if so, has anyone used/got one and is it any good?

they fit 10mm axles, do road hubs have different sized axles or are they all the same.
