• Not many - but maybe there would have been more with a hundred or so years of development like the ICE got.

  • Am I the only person who hates cars?

  • nope, i am 39 and have never even started a car up......by choice.

  • thats my ride

  • Object17 Am I the only person who hates cars?

    No

  • MA3K
Object17 Am I the only person who hates cars?

    No
well i didnt want to be a hater but i agree, i fucking hate cars, ever since i have been a child they have done nothing but make me violently sick, or knock me down.
if i get into a car my gag reflex starts up, i guess ive kinda conditioned myself since being a child, the smell of petrol, the stench of the inside of a car, im really not a fan!

thats why i ride a giant armadillo maybe?

  • 1bhp
benthebrummie 1bhp - where you grow up?

Worcestershire, Morgans are still designed and manafactured in Malvern just down the road.
not far from me, i'm from stourbridge

  • I'd love to see more bicycles on the road - but i love engines.

    Also, i don't want to be a bike-riding, car-hating cliche.

  • Neither do I, I just believe that most journeys by car in London are unnecessary and hence selfish.

    Context is all.

  • lpg Also, i don't want to be a bike-riding, car-hating cliche.

For f**ks sake, CARBON EMISSIONS!!!!!!! You don't have to ride a bike to care!!!!!

  • this is a very interesting thread, I don't mean the cars, because cars are not interesting at all to me.

I'm sure that some users are surpised to find so many car-worshippers here, maybe they were assuming that bike-loving excluded car-philia.
I wonder if there is a pattern, if people more interested in the aesthetics and posing aspects of fixies are those who are also more interested in shiny, status-symbol cars?

Could this be the first major split in our otherwise harmonious community?....I know which side of the fence I would fall if the shit came down...yeah!

But isn't this is a bike forum? shouldn't the conversations be a little relevant? as I mentioned earlier there are plenty of car-porn sites and forums.

I must admit I'm interested in the aesthetics of fixies, and I think some of these cars look f**king cool! But there is no way it can be justified, unless u are using them for working on a farm and generating something like food, or housing or public, state-run transport!

They'll look great in the museums in a decade!

I'd interpret it more as an appreciation of the mechanics and the combination of man and machine. Given that fixed-wheel riders tend to like aesthetically pleasing bikes, it's also not a stretch to think that they would prefer the lines of a thoroughbred or beautifully designed car over a Toyota Prius.

  • velocity boy it's also not a stretch to think that they would prefer the lines of a thoroughbred or beautifully designed car over a Toyota Prius.

Yes, I think that's right.... however, I'd always drive a Prius over anything else

  • Do fixed wheel riders like aesthetically pleasing bikes? Aidan (until recently) and I both ride Vetos so that cannot possibly be true!

It's certainly not the case that all of us become fixed wheel riders for such reasons.

Personally I have no such feelings for cars, they are not powered by me so I don't really see it as a combination of man and machine at all, certainly not in the way a human powered vehicle is.

The Prius is often attacked by petrol heads and it's probably a long way from being the green car it claims to be, but is it really any more ugly than all other modern cars of it's class? I don't think so, it is a victim of prejudiced perception from people who think it's not a "real car"...... this is all a bit boys toys innit?? how many of the cars shown here are small, economic, practical...(but look good?? I'm sure these kind of cars exist but the kind of car worship shown here is little about "lines" or beautiful design, it's about going fast and showing-off non? Jesus some people even think Corvettes and Harleys look cool......madness.

  • You race bikes winston? Get a rush from going fast? Same thing happens in cars (for some of us).
I grew up with two top speedway racers as neighbors and for such a bike nut.. I was actually into cars long before bikes. I always rode bikes but I dreamed of racing speedway.
At some point I got over cars.. I still dig certain aspects of them (I even watch that Clarkson show - know thy enemy :)) but if I was to get a new one it'd be suited to bike carting and as economical as possible.
Doesn't mean I can't dream of hitting 300kph in a twin-turbo Skyline. Anyway, I my bikes could be daggier than yours.. upload some pics and we can have a dodgy-bike-off.. :)

    YouTube - Dog car journey

  • hahaha ace!!! :)

  • z

  • beat that!

  • get gran turismo all the thrills of cars without the fuel bills the sadness of coming down to a keyed car carbon emissions and the DEATH when you hit armco at 300mph

  • Sir, I thought I was lame when it came to chain cleaning and other general maintenance but you take the cake!

At least your setup has all its teeth.. rode the GT for a long time with 3 missing.. :)

Why was this thread sunk anyway? Cars a banned topic or something?

  • yeah what's up with the sinking of threads? Who torpedoes them?

  • Not you? I thought only the original poster could?

Is velocity boy the only administrator on this forum?

Maybe it's a anti-car conspiracy ... somebody sank it for our 'own good'.
