Pub outing for PPCC London members - Pencils pens, chalk and crayons London.

kowalski doesn't have a pen at the moment.

  • I have a quill on order.

From a dodo. Or an Albert Ross.

Or some kinda nonframeproviodingholidaytaking genius bird.

Or similar feathered (or non-feathered) flying (or flightless) framebuilder (or framenger).

I never leave home (or borrowed sofa) without a (or some) Staedtler Lumocolor markers (nicked and/or stolen).

    Jesus, pen envy.

  • Staedtlenger.

although i was particularly enamoured by their basketball pen.

  • Anyone up for this again? October 18th?

  • stompy Anyone up for this again? October 18th?

yeah, i would be... and, as i'm now a fully fledged member of the John Snow Society, I can even indoctrinate you all and teach the real reasons behind the history of the pub and it's significance (well, John Snow's, actually) in the history of modern Hi Jean and why you don't have cholera. Anyone interested?

  • Me!

I saw a documentary about him tracing a cholera epidemic to a pump in the west end somewhere and actually showing Cholera to be a water borne disease.

Wasn't it also because of him that London has got funky sewers?

  • stompy, you're so right! and the pump is right outside the pub - i'll show you the whole thing: we learnt about it in "school" the other day - i'm studying epidemiology - and we had a guided tour to the pub and everything. it's really quite fascinating....
dunno much about the sewers tho - closest i got was draining in sydney on an occasion with the cave clan, but i don't think there's too much of that over here... love to be proved wrong (and do it!)

  • I saw that doco.. or a very similar one. What a guy! :)
Might be "working" at another pub that night though :( Fsck 'em.. no spot for bike = no attending after-hours work bullsh1t.

Was talking to someone about Cave Clan the other day and wondering if there was in fact a UK branch.. doesn't look it: http://www.caveclan.org/international.html

  • yeah, i heard of some guys in paris, but they's at least got catacombs (and i think the guys were old ozzie CC dudes).. hippy, you're from melbs, right? they've got a whole gang down there. i can't imagine anyone really wanting to go down in the waste in london, tho, apart from mebbe some thames water dudes.... which brings us right back round to sewers and cholera and SHIT - another thing i heard a good hours lecture on today (and quite interesting, even if i did disagree with some of the political statements behind the lecturers viewpoint). the thing about oz is, they're predominantly storm drains, for flash flooding (etc) clearance, instead of the drizzly moisture and worst we are forecast for tomorrow.
    keep dry kids!

  • I'll see if I can score a pass.

Might be tricky cos I'm collecting the wheels of steel on Friday.

As kids we used to do the cave clan thing with the storm drains in Castlemaine. Fkn great fun. Dripping, earie, creepy crawlies.. tunnels leading around town..
We also had WWII airforce bunkers around Mildura. Found all kinds of interesting stuff there..
Cave Clan have been around ages.. I remember reading about some of their members knowing secret wartime tunnels for moving around 'special' high-ranking peeps.. similar deal to the tube station between Green Park and um.. Hyde Park Corner? Cool stuff!!

  • bump

  • bamp. anyone wanna join us?

  • and another little bump (spelt right today) - anyone else for anything more? this isn't gonna be a huge drinking session, just a quick after work catch up and say hello...

  • Is this an open invite? Just joined the site, and thought i might pop in on my way back. I work just round the corner so its good for me.

  • Man this pub is practically my local for work. I work wardour street. Nice to see the clientelle changin a bit over the last year with the addition of some cyclists to dilute the media whorage. I'd be there if i was actually in work today.

  • onemagicru Is this an open invite?

yep, welcome to anyone, come along and find us! NB, won't just be cyclists, i got a load of friends coming down who are interested in epidemiology as well (and if you're not sure what that is, you'll get the opportunity to find out a bit more, and the history of the area/pub name as well, tonight)

are you a pub tour guide?

  • Look at the pictures further back in this thread to see what I look like.

I'm rolling to the 9pm showing of the Bicycle Film Festival after this. Got my ticket just now. Anyone else?
