Have u tightened the sprocket up with a chain whip?
-

i rotafixed it, way tighter than using a chain whip...

Dunno, but when I first put my sprocket and lockring on my hub it slipped a bit, cleared up after a few rides. It may just need to settle in.

Get a mavic ellipse lockring (£8 from Condor, usually have to be ordered) before you strip the threads.

good to hear the expert speak!
so do you mean that the DA lockrings i have don't fit the hub and the mavic ones are the only ones that'll work? -

DA and all english threaded lockrings will fit on. It will hold the cog on for normal cycling but will need constant attention and will not survive skips, skids and hard pedal braking, which you've discovered. The threading is just loose enough to allow the vibrations to 'unlock' the lockring, there is a small chance that the threads could be damaged enough already that a Mavic one won't hold permenantly. I did say 'small' chance.
My problem with Maillard and Normandy hubs is that a normal width cog is just a little too wide and only leaves about 3 lockring threads showing. Luckily 3 threads is the minimum needed for a secure fit. (and just for that reason I put the lockring on rounded-edge side in, should be crystal clear once you see the lockring)
I used a Normandy hub with a mavic lockring for a couple years off and on messengering, it was my backup wheel.

thanks tramps, detailed information! that's why i thought it was ok... did a search came up with:
English/ISO 33.53mm x 24 TPI; Bloody French 33 mm x 1.0 mm.
That is close enough to screw it on "tight" but exactly what you don't want to screw up the threads. I just pray they're still alright. I know exactly what you mean by the 3 threads.
i found the mavic lockring on parker international am putting in the order now.
I've got an old skool maillard track hub double fixed, a condor sprocket and a dura ace lockring.
after some skidding/trackstanding and whatever that applies backwards pressure, the sprocket will slip a bit.
i've been tightening the damn thing up well bloody tight, rotafixing the sprocket THEN tightening the lockring to the point i feel i have to stop before i strip the threads, but it still happens...
so i'm wondering if anyone knows anything about these hubs - are dura ace lockrings actually compatible with them or do i need campy ones? i just find it rather unlikely they take campy ones... or are there any other french oddity out there i don't know of?
