Unloved and craving attention

  • I have seen this and have put feelers out to find out if it belongs to anyone, if it's abandoned or just unwanted? Looks like it'll clean up well
and make a nice fixed project... Shame to let a bike die like this, chain is all rusted solid, nice lug detail on chrome foks, fingers crossed I can get it?

  • That's Mine!

(Now where did i park it?)

Looks pretty good to me, it's obviously been there a while though. You could easily sell the levers, mine went for a reasonable amount on t'bay. I'm sure it won't be missed that much.

  • looks fair game to me. if you dont remove it, someone from the council will

  • Ah well, that's the thing, i live in a gated community, so it's upto the estate management to clear it, that's how I got my current build. All bikes not kept in flats need to be registered, so if it's not registered, it will be removed. I have approached the Estate office to ask if it's claimed, but not heard anything yet? Think I could clean up all the unwanted stuff and sell it on, then use that cash to built it into a fixed ride?

  • Do it man, do it!

  • I'm always amazed at how many people get bikes and then just leave them to rot. There was one here at work for a couple of years, never moved, then one of my colleagues said "Oh, that's my bike, I couldn't be bothered to ride it any more". He later left and left the bike behind.

  • Last week I scored a messy Cannondale with 10spd Dura Ace, that a friend's brother had left in the yard for week, no-one knwos where it came from, but now it is new parts for me. Where I live we have a rural dump where we take our own trash and i have scored some nice bikes there, most recently a Motobecane that looked like it had never been ridded, cleaned it up as good as new, but only a 48", so I gave it to a good home, a Bianchi, and some others! It takes patience and keen observation but there are nice bike out there for free.

  • why can't I find nice projects just lying around...

  • Here is one, Kelvin. Most def abandoned, but you have to break a d-lock, and i wouldn't know how to go about doing that...

  • Location : The pedestrian island outside mornington crescent tube station.

  • is that grass growing out of the stem?

  • i like to think of it as facial hair.

  • That's STILL THERE?! Never mind a beard, give it a few more months and it'll grow legs and ride itself away!

    SuzyJ's hard-rubbish find..

    SuzyJ's hard-rubbish find..

gosh, that is really lovely. i'd guess (absolute guess) older than she thinks; 30's?

  • 1947..

"The serial number on mine (7M15009) indicates that it was made in
1947, in their Melbourne factory. The normal production five stars
were all lugged, and made from "light alloy steel" such as Reynolds

    1. They offered fillet brazing as an option only on their custom
made five stars, which were built for (among others) a few of the more
notable Australian racing legends of the time, Oppy and Sid Patterson
being two names to spring to mind.

To cut a long story short, Rolf knows of only two other fillet brazed
five star Malvern Stars in existence. He's convinced that this one
originally belonged to a top track racer. I'll do my best to find out
who, and to get the bike looking and running as best I can.

I'm just amazed that someone was dopey enough to throw it out."
